Title: Fund raising...
Post by: Grampa on August 11, 2016, 04:01:07 PM
Anybody have any first-hand experience with it?

I have a former student who deserves/could desperately use something special.....as in I'd like to get a car for her.

I don't know how I missed this.

No clue on the fundraising but I could possibly help find a cheap car. What kinda quality are you looking for?

Me too...completely missed it.

That's just it...I know nothing about using those funding sites. Do they take a cut?

I'd like to find her something used, inexpensive, but something that did not turn into an instant burden, as in having dump a bunch of money into regarding tires, maintenance, etc.

When it comes time for the purchase, consider markets outside of California like Phoenix or Vegas.

I'll kick in a few $ just cuz it's you, but I also don't know anything about those funding websites...

Not so sure about that Stu-the costs for bringing in something from out of state are steep.

I'm sure we can dig up a cheap good running civic or some such. It may not be any attractive than Joel, but it'll likely work as well.

Oh yeah.  I forgot. CA demands steep "import" fees...  Bastids.   [roll] [roll] [roll] [roll]

I just want to do something for her that doesn't become an albatross that she's stuck with.

No additional fees to register a used vehicle from out of state. As long as the vehicle is 2 years old and has at least 7500 miles on it.

Captain Obvious called, and he told me that while planning ahead for the purchase is good, until there's a wad of cash in hand.... perhaps said cash should be the focus.
