Title: USA Redbull MotoGP - Laguna Seca - Sunday @ Motopia
Post by: bryant8 on July 19, 2008, 12:44:44 AM
Since the get together at the Boyd's is not going to happen, how about we just all meet up at Motopia for the races.

There are plenty of tvs, food, and drink.  WSBK will be on at noon and then the MotoGP will be on later at 4 (if I recall)

There's a good amount of MC parking and will be a good atmosphere to watch the race.

What say you?

I might go. Sarah's gonna be strapped to a tattoo table for a few hours and really there's no fun in watching someone get tattooed for more than like 10 min.

Now the decision - Trot out the sport 1000 again with open pipes or bring the cage? Hmmmmm

Well, I'm trying to be responsible and get some painting done at the house. We've been in this house a year and I'm sick of looking primered walls. I'm going to TRY to make it out for the GP race, but it really all depends on how fast this goes.

Just talked to Charles. I'm going to meet him at Motopia before the MotoGP race. He's bringing my cooler to me... glad to hear it's empty!! [thumbsup] My buddy Greg flamed out on the race watch at the casa so I'll meet Charles and hang with you guys for the race. Is Ryan going? Has anyone heard from him? I know he said he was painting today and was a maybe. Ryan, if you read this come in your car. I have your stock Sports1000 pipes from Tommy. They are all nicely boxed up in the Termi box.

OK, that previous post may be wrong... at least the part about me. My friend has risen from the dead (he hurt his back) and now wants to come over after all to avoid some obnoxious in-laws that have appeared at his house. I think we can all relate. :P He's not feeling good enough for Motopia but will crawl over to my house just to escape crazy in-laws. He will call back in a bit to tell me for sure if he's coming or not. If he comes over I will be a no show for Motopia. Ryan, I will drop your pipes off tomorrow, just PM me and let me know if I can do like I did with the Sports1000 parts. If any Dallas wireless folks get this and you are in a car could you grab my cooler from Charles at Motopia? Sorry for the inconvenience. ;D

I agree 100%. I think he's disappointed in what happened to him. At least he said the wide run and fall were all his fault and didn't try to blame that on Rossi too. Heck, I've seen so many fairing banging races over the years in World SBK it's not funny. Didn't seen them whining afterwards. Rossi didn't do anything except ride the freaking wheels off that Yamaha... just like Stoner was doing. Too bad it didn't go all the way to the end. I still think the results would have been the same. The ball was definitely in Rossi's court today. Just awesome stuff!! Does it get any better? [thumbsup]

had a good time at motopia, until I left and got a ticket for doing 23 mph over the limit.  I wasn't even doing 60.  I think I made it like 500-600 yards from motopia when he pulled me.  I didn't know there was a redlight around the corner, I was accelerating for the on ramp that wasn't there.  Oh well, could've been worse. Could've been 3 weeks from now and a ticket for 88 in a 35 instead of 58. [leo]

DAMN IT!!!  I needed a cardiologist after those first couple of laps   :o

I think Stoner wouldn't have been so pissy after the race if Rossi hadn't pulled that banzai bullshit IN THE F$%#NG CORKSCREW!  I'd be torque'd as hell too - lucky they weren't both Care Flight'd outta there... First friggin' lap... WTF?  Seriously.

But I suppose there can be no doubt after today that Rossi is one of the best riders to ever walk the planet.  Awesome stuff!

Yes, amen. He could have won today pushing a wheelbarrow. Does anyone on this planet live as sweet a life as Rossi? He's the best (maybe ever, great argument!), single, Italian, super fun loving, huge fan base, very approachable and gregarious, always smiling and talking 100 miles a minute, paid millions for doing what he loves and would probably do for free and just seems to be busting open all the time with pure joy and happiness. He is MotoGP. He personifies the sport. Michael Schumacher was great and did the same for F1, but he was a cold, calculating German driver and it came across that way. Rossi is just busting at the seams as a fun loving, life loving, motorcycle loving, wild eyed Italian boy! He just exudes what we all feel and love about scooters. He just rocks. What a great time to be alive and witness greatness like that. [thumbsup] Long live the king.

Someone better sit Casey down and tell him to chill!  Whatever the outcome of the championship, if he lets Rossi in his head, he will become a has-been.  It is Rossi's way to beat his closest competition.  It's a mind game he plays.  Rossi is not only good, he is cunning.  Beneath his boyish appearance he is ruthless.  He has eliminated both Biaggi and Gibernau from MotoGP, his house.

...."It has been shown several times that if things get personal then Valentino tends to come out on top. This has been demonstrated to both Mr Biaggi and Mr Gibernau. The Doctor does not waste ammunition on those opponents who are not a threat to him. Noises emanating from the Fiat Yamaha camp indicate that Rossi is very angry indeed at the suggestion that he rides dirty."...

I caught a glimpse of that as I walked in.  It could have been a wipeout taking Casey out as well as Rossi.  Maybe that is what spooked Casey.  Everything else appeared to be "racing".  I do remember Biaggi pushing out Rossi into the grass coming out of a corner at one race.  Rossi then passed Biaggi and while leaned over, raised his left hand ("the one that works the clutch"  ;D) to flip Biaggi the bird.

It seems he can give but doesn't want to receive "racing moves".

It's going to be one hell of a run for the championship if Stoner and Rossi (and Pedrosa once healthy) keep the racing as exciting as it was at Laguna.

No more snooze-fests from here on until the season is over.

You're absolutely right; he was into the corner first.  Unfortunately his "corner" had no pavement on it.

So was Rossi planning on having Stoner' bike there on the track to stop his trajectory or was Rossi just going to alter the laws of time and space to avoid shooting off the other side of the track like a runaway freight train?   I'm sorry but that was the most irresponsible thing I've seen in a long time, especially from a multi-time World Champion.

I hope Stoner kicks his ass.

lisa i thought you were a big rossi fan. i could care less about either of them. i mean i hope ducati wins but the guy i like just isn't that good in gp. i would like to see casey run rossi like that and see what he has to say in post race and when he cries about it they should remind him of what he did. at that point you will see if he is a real racer or a guy who can dish it out but can't take it. nothing a little post race ass whooping wouldn't solve. if that was my career i don't think i could have somebody wreck (or even almost wreck) me w/o some behind the scenes discussion. i could handle a little leanin a little rubbin but don't wreck me. how many times have you seen a guy having a really good year get caught up in someone elses mess then...bang! suddenly the engine fails next race, then another accident, by then he's snake bite and at the end of the year he's looking for work.

Hey Giannis, is AMS going to do anything at all for the Indy GP like last year's Laguna Seca party or are most of you guys going to the race?

I could be wrong but I don't think Giannis works at AMS any longer....but I could be wrong.

Nope.  Never been much of a fan for Rossi.  That was an awesome ride though - if you could somehow exclude that whole Corkscrew schmozl  [bang]  Guess I'm more of a Ducati fan than anything else.

Hmmm, imagine that  ;D

Watch this a bit old for most of you but was very exiting to see it live back then...

Rossi is on the Yellow NSR500, Biaggi rides the Marlboro YZR500 all that in Suzuka 7 years ago...

That was it.

Replays then showed a close up of Rossi leaned over and flipping Biaggi the bird.    [laugh]

Both got fined for unsportsman-like conduct.

Jeez, if FIM started fining everyone that flipped Biaggi off then they all would be broke! [laugh]

QuoteI'm sorry but that was the most irresponsible thing I've seen in a long time, especially from a multi-time World Champion.

I hope Stoner kicks his ass.

I really disagree.  They get paid millions of dollars to race hard and win.  Stoner could just as easily stuff his bike under Rossi and block pass in the same manner.  Rossi has been using block pass tactics for years.  Rossi was passing Stoner at turn 6 with ease.  The corkscrew has seen that kind of action in many, many races over the years.  Watch AMA and you'll see that exact same scenario happen on that part of the track.  Spies and Mladin don't pregnant dog, they just claim its hard racing.  Keep in mind that coming up to the corkscrew, Stoner leans his bike into Rossi coming off the previous turn.  Its not like Stoner isn't racing aggressively.

The only reason Stoner moaned about it is because that was the first real time he's been challenged at the front in over a year.  He's used to running with a huge cushion and flipped out when someone had the balls to play rough with him.  If Stoner is running faster laps by about 3/10ths, then why isn't he stuffing it under Rossi the same way Rossi stuffs it under him with an admittedly slower bike?  There is no reason Stoner can't win that race other than he just sucks on the brakes and can't do the same maneuvers.

I think winning tough battles like that, pushing yourself to the limits, and coming out on top is what legitimizes your work as a racer.  In the end, Stoner came into turn 11 too hot and dumped his bike on his own without any pressure other than frustration of not being able to pass Rossi and make it stick.  There is a difference between turning fast lap times alone on the track and turning fast lap times while trying to get around someone.

Stoner is a tough kid, and I'm sure will learn from this race and try to dish it out in the future, like he took it this last weekend.  I expect him to push his bike so hard so that he doesn't have to race anyone again.  He likes winning by big margins b/c he doesn't have to actually race anyone.

Honestly, I think the only reason Stoner was so pissed, was due to him dropping his bike at turn 11.  My gut says if he finishes the race in second place, on Rossi's ass, he would have said "good race."  Its more the scenario with which he came in second... not the fact he lost.

That was Nicky Hayden in the red honda and Colin Edwards in the yellow Yamaha at Assen last year?  This year, Nicky runs out of gas while in 3rd in front of Colin who then passes him at the line?

What a race

I agree with ya there Jacob.  Great racing is more than the time trial of qualifying.  I think Rossi just had the perfect tactic to keep Stoner from running away.

Yeah, too bad for Edwards there.  That was one of his only shots at a win in MotoGP.  He just couldn't close the deal.
