Title: ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS
Post by: cencalal on September 15, 2016, 07:15:28 PM
I'm replacing the connector at the bottom of this photo:

I need to find a 4 conductor weatherproof connector - metripack or similar - for 14/16 ga wire.  Took a look on ebay, where they go for between $1.50 and $30.  ??? How much do I need to spend for a decent connector, and where is a reliable source?

Thanks

The guy at
www.easternbeaver.com (http://www.easternbeaver.com)
specializes in connectors and has a good reputation although no FHE.
He is in Japan and has a $20 minimum order so best to find several things you need.

I had a good experience with this company when I bought a headlight harness connector.

The owner quickly answered an email question I had and gave me several choices for higher quality connectors.

I use Deutch connnectors on all the electrical loom that I've made in the last years .... very hi-quality...

I suggest getting a kit but you can also order them by items

Thanks for all the suggestions - no problem now finding a connector.  The stock unsealed connector has 7mm wide blade terminals.  It's big. The red and red/wht wires are 14/16 gauge and carry power to and from the ignition switch - will a 30 amp rated sealed connector, like a metri pack 280, be adequate in that position?  The bike's main fuse is a 30 amp...

The metripack will work fine for you application .....  the only things is that ther bulky .... the Deutch connetors look better ...

I use metripack for linking the alternator to the voltage regulator...  I'ts probeblly the hardest voltage and harsh condition that you can put a connector  true...and it works flawlessly...

I have a box full of metripacks.... if you want I can send you  everyting that tou need to install it ( crimps, plugs, receptical )

Whit metripack you just have to dont forget to put the little ruber first , crimp the wires and after intall it in the plug or receptical ..... the order is important .....

A 4 way connector is that it ?

P.m. your adress and I send it to you.......free.....   [thumbsup]

Thanks!  What I have to connect are the two 14 or 16 ga main wires and two 22 ga lighting relay wires.  Can I use one connector for those different size wires?  If so, it's a four-way.  I was going to use a metri pack 280 two-way 30 amp for the big wires (those don't seem to come 4-way), and some sort of mini connector for the lighting wires...

Seperating the 2 types of wires is a good idea if they have a complete defferent purpose.  Considering ...4 or 16 awg  and 22 awg  hare really far apart......      but you can use a 4 way conector bit you will have to use the corresponding cripms...

The quation is more where those wires feed the power ?

If I'm reading the wiring diagram right, one of the small wires (orange) connects to a lighting relay, and the other (yellow) goes to a little lamp in the headlight.  Using separate connectors, one big and one mini, seems the way to go...
