Looks alot like our "Inchman" Bull Ants. Yep they grow an inch long and have a very painful sting.

What drives a person to seek these creatures out, piss them off and take the sting?

He's like the Steve Irwin of the insect world.

That's a really good question.

I certainly can't explain it. [roll]

I imagine they sold their KTM and were looking for a similar experience.

Not the worst example but to be fair it really only applies to that paint shaker lethe rides.

Mine are more user friendly.

Clicks are bucks, baby, and I don't doubt his income is pretty substantial. I can attest that this guy is red-hot among teenage boys where I teach. One of them did tell me very earnestly that he does it for scientific research.  [laugh]

But it did give me a chance to share my love of the tarantula hawk with the kid - they're seriously cool critters. I've never known one to sting a person (unless, obviously, sufficiently provoked) and they've got a horror story life cycle worthy of Edgar Allen Poe. They find big tarantulas and sting them. The sting doesn't kill the spider, just paralyzes it. Mom drags the spider into her burrow, lays her eggs on it, and then the kids have fresh breakfast waiting for them when they hatch.

Nature, FTW!!

We have the Red Velvet Ant down here, but like those other ones you'd have to make it sting you.
