Title: RIP 280Z.
Post by: the_Journeyman on January 26, 2017, 08:52:19 AM
Went for a quick spin, broke the inner tie rod joint, crossed four lanes of traffic, swatted a billboard pole, and took a 30 or so foot nose dive over a bank.  I somehow walked away.  My 280 is done though, going to part the good pieces like the Mikuni triples out I suppose.

First and foremost - I'm glad you're alright.

Second (a very distant second), I remember when you posted the first photos of that car, and loved it at first sight. I'm sad to hear of its demise.

I'm sad for the car, it needed a lot of work but I loved it.

I've very surprised I came away in one piece.  It was so fast I remember a jerk to the right, flash of green (me going through a stand of pines I've learned) and being at a stop a little confused.

It's definitely going out for parts, it's not one that can be rebuild.  The whole back half of the car is mostly ok.  The Miknui triples are certainly going to go for sale, and I'll give it a few weeks if people want any of the glass (all the glass is intact believe it or not) and things like that and the short block.  Maybe the transmission is ok too.

I don't feel bad for the car at all.  It's a machine afterall and they're not scarce...

Glad you're OK!  Seems like accidents are almost always caused by someone doing something  stupid.  This was different, a part failure completely out of the blue.  Did the tie-rod end pull apart at the ball and socket or did it break somewhere in the threaded area?  I've had some old vehicles and something like a tie-rod end failure sometimes enters my mind but it's never happened.  Again, glad you're OK.

Holy Crap dude!

I'm really glad you're ok.  So many things could have gone worse during those few seconds.

That was close.
