Title: Duc Died!
Post by: SammySack on July 21, 2008, 07:33:44 AM
Friday on my lunch break I hit a big pot hole riding where I shouldn’t have been. [bang]  I bent my front rim a little.  After freaking out a lot, I ride it around the parking lot at low speed to see if it is ride able and everything seems fine.  Everything looks and feels fine.

I ride back to the office, no problems, and finish my day.  After work I jump on to ride home.  Halfway home on the interstate, the bike just dies.  I look down at the gauges and they are completely dead.

Get the bike pulled over, try to restart, nothing.  Gauges don’t sweep, bike wont restart.  While waiting for my father to bring the truck to pick me up, I check the battery connections.  No luck.  Over the next half an hour I turn the key off and on a few times, nothing.

Load the bike up, drive home, unload the bike at my house.  Turn the key, gauges sweep, bike fires right up, I pull it into the garage.  I park it all weekend to go out of town.  I get home last night, fires right up no problem.  WTF?

Anything easy I can check / eliminate before I go through the hassle of trucking it to the local dealer??  ???

The bike is an 06 620

Ground wire on your battery terminal might be loose; I had it happen... Just tighten up the bolt and it should be ok if that's what is wrong.

Thanks Scooby.  I've just let the bike sit in the garage for a few days and haven't really messed with it. I have started it a few times and it fires up no problem, but I haven't ridden it yet.  I popped the tank up last night and checked the battery connections.  Nothing seemed loose to me.  ????

Check the other end of both cables.

If it does happen again, note if the lights, horn, etc. work.

Try staring the bike up and then moving the handlebars lock to lock. bounce the bike also. you may have a loose connection at the gauges or a wire that is getting pinched.
