1) Be careful not use too much oil on it.  There is always some positive pressure in a Ducati crankcase.

2) Confirm the oil level is not to high.

3)  Get an appropriate hose and raise it up near the seat.

Although they sell a lot of those type of crankcase vents, I'm not sure a K&N air filter is the correct item for this crankcase vent application. The stock crankcase vents' reed valve lets oil spray out its top and vent into a plastic pod container for emissions.

IMO, this type of K&N crankcase filter will just spew oil spray out of it all over the engine whenever crankcase pressure gets higher. When I see these, I expect oil spray all around them.

I replaced my crankcase vent with the fancy $70 Duckbike part, then ran a large 1" dia. washer hose out of its top towards the back of the bike under the seat. It now vents directly to the atmosphere, but the 12-14" hose is long enough to let oil spray drain back into the bike as needed- no oil spray comes out the end of it at all.

As suggested, raising this K&N "Crankcase" filter up and under the seat on a 12-14" long hose may provide enough length to keep your bike clean of oil spray like mine (98 M900).

Yup.

I suggest mounting oil catch tank also. That makes pretty big difference.

Why mess with the stock setup? I've never had an issue with it.

Like many I run the stock catch tank/ breather box set up with a small K&N filter. Custom bike builders look to clean up the area, so relocated custom catch tank/breather box is an option.

I'll tty and find some links to old threads on this.

I just want to keep the mist off back tire for obvious reasons, mounting directly above the rear tire wont do that, I will rout somehow, never had one blow mist like this

For my HYM1100 track day motor, I made a ventilation volume / catch tank, and put the reed valve (for a Gilera Moped) at the end, and a small vent hose to a catch bottle.

It seems to have worked, since nothing has escaped to the bottle, but before shutting everything down for the winter, I will take of the lid, start the motor, and see if the reed valve actually works.

Crafty indeed. [thumbsup]
I always thought one of those anodized alloy drink bottles would look good.
