Today my local Toyota dealership informed me that my 2007 Tundra failed their frame inspection. They would like to replace it, on their dime.
Who am I to say no? :o

The frame, that is..
Of course, what could go wrong?

You might go see sales and see what your trade options are...just sayin'.

A competent tech can replace a frame. I'm incompetent, and have replaced cabs. Proves it ain't rocket science. :P
Like you say. ;D
So, I've changed the title to Thank you Toyota! What could go wrong?
I have some ideas of my own, but I am interested in hearing ideas about what COULD go wrong, as well as tricks for defending against the dealership saying "oh, it must have been like that when you dropped it off..."
And I AM going to talk to the dealer about alternatives, like a trade in, etc.... But I don't have a lot of extra to shell out at the moment, and I actually like my truck. If I can be in a place to drive it for another 120k, I will be VERY happy with that outcome!
I'd want assurances of $0 cost, including squeaks, rattles, alignment/tire wear issues, and any failure of any fastener/connection, or parts those items connect to that they touch in the process of the repair... basically everything...for a long time...more than their standard repair warranty.
A truck with some age will have items that if left alone, will last a vehicles lifetime. Effed with can fail in a short period of time unless care is taken to make sure it's done right.
In addition to what Nate said, I suspect they'll find a bunch of other stuff that they'll recommend be fixed.... on your dime.
Not that they're necessarily trying to take advantage of the situation, truck's 11 years old and some stuff is going to be getting haggard.
And, how was the frame failing inspection?

...and that's where they mitigate their cost...make the beast with two backsem...the frame failed...fix it at zero cost, and guarantee there will be no future failures in a year, or 15K...
or give me a new truck. [evil]
<Toyota guy here with corporate hat on.>
We've been replacing plenty of frames in NE for quite a few years. So they should have the process down.
There is a list of parts that are replaced with the frame.
Additional parts that have worn out/rusted over time are considered owner's responsibility.
Unfortunately, topics that cannot be discussed here are in play, there is no flexibility on the dealer or factory side to change what is covered.
Feel free to PM for more info.

The parts list is pretty generous...
They already told us not to expect much in the way of a bone-us this year. [roll]

...and I don't doubt that 'they' think they're doing a fine stroke.
Fact is if the frame wasn't poorly designed for the conditions we face in the Northeast all the other parts, left alone, would go 20+ years and we both know it. Start make the beast with two backsing with stuff, and it turns to shit. Toyota must be a plumbing company. ;D
I won't apologize for my correct opinion. :-*
Sure, mistakes were made.
Google any other manufacturer+frame rust and what are you going to find.
All all the others replacing frames on 11yo trucks?
As they say, they don't make them like they used to.

Take off the hat for a second...and quit being defensive. Toyota makes a great product, and seems to be 'trying' to do the right thing. If Tojimotor didn't want to do 'the right thing' in a corporate sense, they would do what all the US manu's do and say make the beast with two backs off.
All I'm saying is that the owner is being asked to share part of the burden of the corporate blunder, and wonder if that's right? How many frames are they replacing in climates that don't use salt? Are we New Englanders expected to pay because some enginered didn't foresee the issue? If a corporation admits wrong then they should just suck it up, or be like all the other gravy sucking pig corporations and say...make the beast with two backs off. I view the 'parts list' as petty. That's just me.
Keep in mind...I frame clipped my fair share of Chevy's in my time, and it cost the owners less than what the incidentals might cost today.
I guess I'm going to 'perspective'. I can't help who I am.
PM sent.

Jonas...it is what it is. :-\
Thanks for the opinions everyone.
Not that I'm letting Toyota of the hook, but cars JUST RUST in New England... To much crap put on the roads.
Randimus, I'll PM you soon (on my phone right now.) Wouldn't mind seeing the "parts list" in advance.... As well as any secret Toyota hand shake to let the dealer know to be nice/fair....
Maybe if we didn't salt the roads every five minutes.
I'll stand up for Toyota. I have a 2006 Sport Tacoma 4X4 and the only issue I have had was a front wheel bearing and they installed new rear springs under a recall. I love this truck. they have been top notch to deal with and the frame has been inspected twice and no issues.
Not that anyone asked my opinion

Ah, but I did!
And I also stand by my Toyota's. I've more of them than any other vehicle. I keep coming back.

Start submerging your vehicles in Fluid Film once a year.
