Title: 05 S2R 800
Post by: shadow on July 22, 2008, 07:28:28 PM
ive been looking at getting a monster for the past couple of months now. at a shady dealership close to where i live they have a 05 s2r 800 998 miles for $6600. the catch is there are no records and the bike has been dumped with minor scratches on the whole right side [bang]. the dump seems to only be minor and at slow speeds. so yeah now i have no clue what to do. any input?

No records? As in no title info? No maintenance records?

I paid less for a perfectly fine one.  Tell them to piss off.

Telling us it's shady tells us you should walk away.  YOu solved your own dilemma

I love shady deals. Maybe you can talk him down enough to make it worth it.

NADA says that's almost $2000 over priced.

Move on.

Shady dealership?  So you live in Denver?

3 year old bike, with only 998 miles on it, for $1,395 below original list?  With at least a couple grand in damage!

Don't walk away from this deal...  Run away from it like the devil himself is after you.

I'll sell you my well tested (26,000 miles) 05 S2R, with full Arrow Ti exhast, PCIII, Cyclecat rearsets, etc. etc. etc. for $15,000.00 - I have the title and all the service records.  ;D

look in the "Monsters for Sale" section of the board.  You will get a much better deal.  At that price, you can find an 05 s2r with at least arrow pipes on them.

thanks guys. im from wisconsin and finding s2r 800's for sale is hard to come by. this dealership is know for their dumped bikes and they wont
budge on prices and u cant test drive them. i guess i saw the bike and it was like a deer in headlights, its a beautiful model monster. anyways i think im going to wait.

I don't think its that bad of a deal.  Of course I haven't seen the damage, and like the others said, it should at least have some aftermarket pipes on it.  You can get that bike in southern california on craigslist for about 6000.  But that is pretty low mileage...  I say offer 6 and see what they say...

+1

I found one three blocks away after looking around for a few months.  Shipping's a bit of extra $, but piece of mind is worth it, IMO.

Take road trip if there aren't any near you.  I went to DC from Cincinnati to get mine.  When I was looking there were some in Chicago as well.  I just had to have red with white wheels and wasn't budging on it.

That is way too much for an 05 S2R-800 that has been dropped

My 06 S2R was $6600 with 2400 miles and perfect condition.

Pass.

Besides, if you are willing to spend that much, try and get an S2R 1000.

I got an S2R800 as a first  bike.  Though I love it, if the dealer would have told me about the adjustable front forks (knew I was going to have to play with the forks anyway due to my weight) and better front brakes that came on the 1000, I would have voluntarily dealt with a steeper learning curve.  It is much more expensive to upgrade the 800 than to buy the 1000 and have to deal with more power and a dry clutch.

My 0.02

Also, like mentioned here before.  ROAD TRIP.  If you find a bike within a 2-4 hundred mile radius, ride that sucker back.  I think 250 mile radius would be the most ideal.  Only problem is that you wont know what you are getting until you get there.

I had a good time going and getting it.  It was December, so riding it back was mostly out of the question.  I have personal preference to keep my hands.  Got there test drove it.  Paid for it.  Put it in the back of the truck and then back through the mountains we went.  DC and back in a day, got me a bike and my friend a hell of a brag and story.

I bought my 2007 S2R with 287 miles, still under warranty until 11/09, for $7500 in NYC in May of this year. $6600 for that shit is way too much.

Countgreffi we should meet up I am in brooklyn.

I bought an S2R1000 2006 with 4500 miles on it in perfect condition with a intergrated tail light for $7000. A STEAL! saw it on day 1, it had a lien on it, and the bank was closed, but i comiited to the seller. Next day showed up at 8am with cash in hand, went to the bank, paid him, he paid the bank, bank let go of the bike, and got it registered and titled the next day. Though the bike is spitting oil out of all the valve covers. :(. But thats why i got a warranty!!

id take a pass on this bike. There are plenty of bikes around here, being sold by people you trust more than these guys. I would rather buy blind from here with a guy whos known around the boards, then a dealer whos going to charge you up the ass for something thats over priced.
