I need to take my exhaust system apart, but I can't get the springs that hold it together to come off; should I just take a pair of needle-nose pliers and pull them apart, or is there some special technique or tool?
There’s a tool:
FMF Racing 11231 Pipe Spring Tool https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JXOPMQG/
But I have used needle-nosed pliers and you can do it if you’re careful. I’d highly recommend safety glasses tho. They are on there pretty good.
I've got one like that, it's quite good.
And yeah, glasses always.
Go to local NAPA store and get this if you are in a hurry.

(I personally like NAPA one better than more common "T" handle type.

Thanks guys! I figured I must be missing something. I always looked at those things and thought, "That's enough to hold my exhaust together?" Turns out it definitely is.
You'll be happy when you use that tool. It's a life saver for taking them on and off.
Yep, then getting them back on.
