Hi folks,, thanks for your time and any replies.
Purchased a 01 M750 w/26.8k miles. Has sat unused since 2011. $750.
Naturally the belts and other essential components are being serviced.
The charcoal can is gone. The Vacuum fuel valve replaced with a manual one.
Carb kits are in the mail.
All fuel / vacuum/ vent lines replaced.
The tank is cleanðŸ'.
But here's my issue. The fuel level sender is busted. It is the plastic nut version. And I hear they are crazy expensive.
Planning on eliminating it completely. Has anyone done this and how?? My mind see's a metric threaded cap and gasket replacing the sender. I measured the bung at 30mm× 1.5 tp.
Looking forward to your thoughts and wisdom.
Thanks, PaydayGabe in BCNV.
Welcome [beer]
Try a post in the Tech section. I have a busted sender in my old 900 and have just left it alone using the trip meter instead.
I have heard of folk soaking the sender upside down in parts cleaner to loosen the mechanism with mixed results.
AFAIK, the sender on an '01 M750 is all electronic.
If it's non-functional and not leaking, and you can reliably use the tripmeter only, leave it be.
The hole's already plugged.....
Thanks for your time.
To clarify, , the internal part has broken from the nut. A PO repaired it once that I can see(epoxy). I hope to make a more permanent solution for this. And save some dough.
How many posts are required before I can post photos, and how is that done? Thanks,, G.
Disregard my inquiry about photos.
Photobucket or whatever is too involved for me and my phone, , So I guess it's, , use your imagination time for that. Sucks.
If it is just the nut that is leaking https://motowheels.com/i-8678098-corse-dynamics-billet-fuel-sending-unit-replacement-nut-ducati-1990-2003.html
ca cycleworks, a sponsor here, also sells a replacement nut... http://ca-cycleworks.com/ca-cycleworks-products/fuelnut
Use the original sender if that isn't damaged, or add a small shouldered plate (might need to have one machined locally), an o-ring, and I'd call it fixed.
Thanks Howie/ Ducpainter,,
That's pretty much what I need. Hopefully it will resolve my problems.
At least with this issue. Will be contacting them today.
Cheers,,, G.
Your welcome. As dp said, "ca cycleworks, a sponsor".
Quick update:
It's been a few days since the last post.
Ordered the sender nuts from MotoWheels.
Had to get both items as I wasn't sure which would fit. I have a steel tank.
I used item size 1.2052" as it gave a better fit. YMMV depending on your tanks bung dimensions. Get both , , return the unused one. Ride safe everyone. G.
