Title: Remove paint from wheels...
Post by: cencalal on July 09, 2019, 05:25:52 PM
I'm thinking of doing the all black wheels on my '08 695 in that old two tone style - painted spokes/centers, bare aluminum outers/edges.  I've done something like this on some Japanese wheels by removing all the paint  :P and then repainting the spokes and center portion.  But I'm wondering if I could just strip the outer edges of these Brembo wheels.  They seem to be painted, not powder coated, and methylene chloride stripper does the trick - the problem is how to mask.  The stripper softens the adhesive on tape, allowing leakage underneath.  (Don't ask me how I know this.)

Thanks for any hints.

Masking, and paint stripper, just won't work.

There’s a plastic tape that they use for powder coating that may work, but if it were me, I’d talk to a place that repairs/polishes wheel to see if they could machine the finish off to bare metal.
