I want to change the oil cooler on my bike ... I have seen some after market ones but I am unsure of the capacity and flow rate...
am I right in thinking the flow rate does not matter as some bikes never had a cooler fitted (unless I dreamt that [laugh]) and there is a bypass internally in the engine?
Yes, some have no cooler.
When using a cooler, there is a bypass plate that is installed under the fitting that the oil filter attaches to.
Said plate directs oil to the cooler but allow bypassing the cooler if it gets plugged or a line pinched or other calamity.
Flow rate of a cooler is unlikely to be significant if the replacement is of similar or larger size.
Over-cooling is possible, if oil temp doesn't get above 212 degF the water contamination from combustion doesn't boil off well.
Oil cooler cover in temps below 17 C over here, or half cover a big cooler on a worked motor like the truckers do. Im just using cable ties but will get a couple made up with velcro like those that came with the old Lockhart oil coolers for Harleys.
thanks guys...
I am struggling to find an aftermarket on to fit though...
anyone go a link to a suitable replacement?
