Hello guys!
I've bought an used (previously crashed and restored) 695. As I ride it I've seem to encounter more and more problems. For some of them I've already found solutions in this forum (thank you), but for some I couldn't so I started this topic.
I don't have experience with fixing bikes, but with proper guidance I can do most of the repairs (at least I hope) ;D
so...my first question is:
the microswitch wires that trigger the stop light on the front brake have come loose from the installation and I can't (for the life of me) figure out where should I plug them in. I've looked at the wire scheme in manual, but am too stupid to figure it out :D
Does anyone have a picture where those wires go?
Three pairs of bullett connectors behind the headlight, all coming out from the main harness bundle, of which two pairs are turn signals.
Wow! That was a fast reply! Thank you, I will try to find it this weekend.
I assume that headlight needs to come off and the wires should be the same color as ones on the microswitch?
Headlight off, yes.
(place the bike in front of a wall and see where the light beam hits, so you can adjust the bucket when you put it back in)
Sometimes, not often, but sometimes the colors aren't the same. It won't be hard to see what's what.
ok... iI removed the headlight but can't figure out in which harness do i plug this wires? Can anyone circle it out for me?

It will be a pair of bullet connectors, like what's in the lower left of that image.
The wiring diagram will tell you which color wires to look for.
Thanks for all the help guys! Unfortunately, previous owner seems to have replaced parts of the wiring (not minding the color codes). In previous picture, on the bottom left side are the wires from microswitch, but they do not have connectors, they are just bare wires. I've tried searching for something like that, but can't see another pair of loose wires anywhere.
It seems I will have to fold and take it to the shop to have it figured out.
Wiring colors are only valid for the main harness itself.
Seperate items, like the microswitch, often have non-matching wire colors.
Ok, the brake light is fixed.
My next problem is regarding the right LCD - it is set to show temperature, and when the engine is cold it shows LO and when it warms up it shows current temperature (just like in the manual).
This last few days it keeps showing - - - and then switches to LO for a few seconds and starts to show temperature.
Anyone knows why it started showing - - -?
Those signs come up when the sensor connector is broken/loose. It's way down on the engine, right side, under the oil sight glass and clutch. Why it shows low sometimes.... don't know.... half good, half bad connection perhaps...
Yes! That's it! I gave it a few shakes and it started showing LO again! Can I unscrew this nut that holds the sensor and clean (lube?) it without draining the oil?

No need to do that, it doesn't need cleaning or lubing.
There is a connector inside the rubber boot, make sure that it is clean and fits securely on the post of the sensor, that's all you need to do.
+1
If the female connector is loose on the sender's pin/nipple thingie, then tighten it a little by squeezing it very carefully with a pair of pliers.
All fixed, thanks guys! :)

Ok, this will probably be the stupidest question on the board, but like I said, I'm a noob and user manual doesn't help much! I've been searching for the service manual, but so far unable to find it.
So the question is... can I replace alternator cover cap without draining the oil? Just remove two screws and install a new one?
Also, can I replace the clutch and brake reservoir covers without messing something up?
Yes on the first.
On the second, don't pinch the seal/gasket/bellows or strip the threads from over tightening. Level the resi each time to avoid paint damage from a spill. I cover the tank and have a windex bottle of soapy water ready for Murphy's Law.
