This may be a little off topic, but I had to show her off to people who would care. The wife and I drove out to Tucson last weekend to pick up our new puppy. She is a 14 week old Dobie and weighs about 30 lbs. Her legal name is Esprit v d Bavarienburg, bu we have named her Star Scream. We are looking for a Schutzhund club to join, and are checking one out tonight. Hopefully we will like them. If not, then it will be a 1.5 hour drive, three times a week for her training.

What a beautiful pup!
Congrats on the new family member [thumbsup]
If she grows into those ears and feet you're in trouble. :)
Oh, and PLEASE don't dock the ears, and tail if you haven't done so already. It's such a cruel thing to do for no reason other than outdated breed standards for shows.
In fact, Britain just passed a law forbidding it. All dogs who's classes formerly required docked tails or ears no longer need do so. If your dog already had it done they are grandfathered in, but from now on cockers will have full tails, dobies will have floppy ears and tails, etc. Such a good step for the limeys to take. [thumbsup]
Are they good eating?!? ;D
Seriously, congratz [thumbsup]
Sit, Stay. Good Doggie [evil]
What a fantastic looking dog - CONGRATS [thumbsup]
Nice lookin' dog [thumbsup]
So, when do you fab a sidecar for the pooch? Rich may have some ideas. ;D
Nice lookin' pup. I like the brown instead of black that most dobies I see.
Thanks everyone! We are absolutely in love with her.
We are not cropping the ears, but the tail was done when she was 2 days old. I like the docked tail, but natural ears are the only way to go.
You know, my neighbor trains German Shepards. She does that whole german attack and behavior training stuff. I THINK it's what you're talking about. I'm not that familiar with it.
I can try to find out where/who she works with if you like.
That would be great! [thumbsup]
PM sent. Give me a shout

A docked tail is a good idea if it is going to be a big dog.
If you've ever been next to an un-docked big Rottweiler or Doberman that is happy you'd understand why.
They can clear a coffee table off or smack you in the package with one wag.
Over time it can do a bunch of damage.
Cropped ears is a good idea if it is a hunting dog that will spend a lot of time in the water.
Big floppy ears are cute (I prefer them personally!) but chronic ear infections that smell like rotting opossom
and are painful for the dog (and hearing loss too) are much worse than what they endure as a bitty pup getting cropped.
All that aside, BEAUTIFUL PUP!
Hopefully you'll bring her out for us to all see soon!!! [thumbsup]
(does she "play well with others?")
I'm sure you'll give it the best!!! :)
screw the British laws, I say nip tuck. If you feel bad for Fido score him some good pain meds. ;)

Sweet pooch. [thumbsup] We just adopted a 3+ year old girl last weekend. She's a Border Collie mix but she doesn't look like the Border Collie I had for 18 years. ??? Must be a lot of "mix" in her. She's an absolute sweetheart. Some wretched bastards left her abandoned as a "too young to be pregnant" pup in the house they vacated. In the cold of February with no power, heat, food and maybe water to drink from the toilet bowl... if the f@#kers left the lid up. Neighbors worrying about her somehow got in the house. She had delivered the pups, two of which had already died. It was freezing and she had no food to help her nurse the pups. I'd like to catch those assholes some day in an alley, I'll be the one swinging the baseball bat!
Anyway, she was nursed back to health and adopted by a loving family with kiddos. The Mom got sick, bad sick, organ transplant sick and the doctor told them to ditch the pooch due to her poor immune system. Since when do dogs make people sick?? I might have ditched the doc and kept the dog... but what do I know. They said when the husband brought her back to the rescue group at an adoption fair he was crying his eyes out. Really sad. She was very upset and confused but has settled in with her foster home really well.
We are going on vacation and don't want to bring her home until after we get back. It would be cruel to bring her home, spend less than two weeks with us and take her to a kennel or back to the foster home until we get back. She would think she was being dumped off again. We can't do that to her and the rescue group agreed. They appreciated the concern. It's absolutely killing us, we want her here right now, but out of respect for her and all she's been through we'll just wait. We met her with a volunteer last weekend at a Petsmart in Irving and she was awesome. What a sweetheart.
There I go again... going on and on. But this time it was worth it... she's worth it. Congrats on the puppy!!!

WOW. Great to hear you're doing the right things for her (no surprise, but still...)
It is terrible what some people will do to an animal.
But then it is terrible what some people will do to their own family.
There is a pilot here who just help send someone away for life... and rightfully so!
(ask him for the story next time you see him...)
Give a puppydog the right things for a long healthy life...
and they will repay you with the kind of unconditional love that only they can.

Putting together those awful courtroom meladramas was what I used to do for a living. It's not like Perry Mason. Jen and I have seen it all... and I mean all of it. She was a felony probation officer for years and years. She got them after they finished my "meladrama"... if they got probation. Ok, so... what do you think about bacon flavored cigar shaped snacks? We can call them Duke's... and we can get Paris Hilton to feed them to her pooch on TMZ and everyone will want them for their toy dogs so they can all look gangster wearing shirts and jewelry.
You may laugh but it's probably guaranteed to make millions!! People will spend more $$$ on their dogs than their kids. Screw college for little Billy the dog needs a new diamond studded collar and lead!! [laugh]
Reminds me of a college economics course project a classmate friend and I came up with at UT/Austin. "Yowzer Bowzer Dog Breath Treats". Everyone knows that all dogs have bad breath. So, we came up with a make believe product and marketing scheme for the class to promote dog treats that the dogs would gobble up my the millions ( [bacon] flavored ) but put taste labels on them that people would like. Cheeseburger, beef enchilada, lasagna, pepperoni pizza... you get the idea. Make the people think of yummy people food, the dog couldn't give a s#@t because they all taste like bacon to him and have some chemist come up with something in the treat that makes the dog's breath smell like he just had an Altoids. Even if it just lasted for two minutes. Then you'd have to give him another treat because now his breath is all doggy again. See, the perfect marketing scam. Dogs love the treats, the people "think" they must taste good to the dog because they are labled as yummy people food, the dog's breath is good for a few minutes... and the cycle repeats it's self endlessly all across the country. Petsmarts cannot keep them in stock. I make millions. Oh, and that's me sitting on the beach in St. Thomas surrounded by MotoGP umbrella girls sipping a top shelf marg looking over my off shore bank account statements!
Ahhh, a boy can dream can't he?? [wine] [bacon] [clap] Hey, that's where my old Border Collie got he's name. Bowzer was named after that treat! Seriously.

My co-worker is seriously going to get his dog a diamond studded collar (I shit you not) but will NOT buy his wife a new diamond ring. She wants an upgrade b/c she got hers 20 years ago before they had a lil "$" to spend. They just had their 20th anniv and he didn't deliver. I've been giving him a hard time about it. He's already been to the Jeweler for the collar! Bought his (17yr old) daughter a new Mini Cooper S and no ring for momma. Sad.

Hmm, ok lets have them be bacon flavored but shaped and smell like fine cigars? We can sell them in the cigar boxes, or singles on the counter in the plastic wrapping... hmm We can even have some "select"
Fido Castro limited edition ones smuggled in from Cuba HAHAH [laugh]
Whoa... putting down the caffeine now

Yes, pure thread jack at it's best. Morphed slightly about the dog treats then kinda went to hell in a handbasket. By the way, does anyone actually know what is in that alleged handbasket... and why not a bucket or a box? In today's world it should be a backpack or messenger bag. ;D
