I put my bike away a few days ago and came back to a dead dash when trying to start it. Fuel pump primes but headlight and dash do not operate. The passing lights, brake lights, immobilizer light, and horn operate. Battery passes charge and load tests, all fuses good, swapping relays next to the battery had no effect. What would be the other things I can check? I did have the headlight off recently to polish the chrome. I took it off again to see if I moved/disconnected/shorted some wires but nothing visible. Thanks for any ideas. I've also posted on ducatimonster.org for those that monitor both boards.
Did you notice what the immobilizer light did?
..... maybe the antenna under the ignition lock cover?
Antenna is on its own 3A fuse in the fuse box. Check that maybe.
I could be wrong, but I think if it is an antennae issue the dash would work, but the bike would not crank and the immobilizer light would blink a code. Did you actually check the fuses for continuity or just visually inspect? How about the 40 amp fuse for the charging system?
Howie, I had only visually inspected the fuses. Turns out my 15A was bad, bike started right up but blew the new fuse immediately. I suspected a short under the headlight somewhere (having removed it recently) so took it off and stripped the shrink tube. Didn't find any visible culprit, but it reliably starts after retaping. Can't really say I found the gremlin, but it's tamed for now. Thanks to all for your suggestions.
A tight loom around the head stem is often mentioned on the check list here.
Check the wiring from the kill switch.
It plugs in behind the head lamp and can get into the steering stop when the wires behind the lamp are disturbed. AMHIK [bang]
