Title: Can Roadracing tank be made to work with S4RS?
Post by: Heath on January 14, 2020, 08:03:40 AM
I am trying to see if the metal (I think Aluminum?) Roadracing tanks can be made to work with an S4RS.  I know fuel pumps changed at some point but is there a work around?  What would need to be done.

Share whatever info you know.

Assuming you have a RR tank intended for injection, you'd need a pump, mounting bracket, and the biggie...an external pressure regulator.

S4Rs tank has a specific tank bottom to clear the larger amount of equipment on the V head of that 998 engine.  RoadRacing was out of business by the time that bike came out so they never officially made one.  I *suppose* an injected RoadRacing tank *could* be made to work with a fair bit of thin gauge aluminum fan work.  But damn, that’s an awfully rare tank to cut up.

There are some panel-beaters out there who can make said tank brand new.  I do not know who they are.

Probably too much hassle. I found one for sale online and was wondering what it would take to make it work with my bike.

very nice
I just know I want a tank that looks good, can be painted and holds more fuel.  My light coming on at 80 miles (128km) is just dumb.

The FI RR tank has carbon on the front of it.
He and his wife keep trying to buy my carbie RR tank. Went from 700 to 1200 so far :)

have you checked out ETI FuelCel? capacity claim to 19L, up from 13-14L of an S4RS.

I have actually. After reading about pin hole leaks that may develop I wasn't willing to take the risk.

Coat it with Caswell before paint if you're concerned.

I've never seen one that leaked. I did see one that had other issues.
