Title: 900 won't start?
Post by: Gmoto on January 14, 2020, 09:46:50 PM
Turn key, got lights and instruments, but no sound of fuel pump charge, press start and nothing. gone over wiring looking for loose connection, checked fuses, replaced starter relay, looking for next steps.

Check battery condition.

Check battery condition means charge and load test.  Also check fuses, not just visually, check continuity.

Thanks Howie, will do, checked battery but doing it again. Also was told to check the fuel pump, your thoughts?

Cheap and easy first.  Battery, fuses, power to fuel pump relay, relay working, then the big stuff.

Non-start problems on injected Monsters are rarely component failure. Almost always electrical.

My thoughts too. Plan to spend the weekend following up on these suggestions. Hopefully be back with good news.

Starter turns over when I short cut relay. Where is the fuel pump relay located? Of the two relays located on the side of the fuse box one smaller than the other and mine is yellow, are either of these the fuel pump relay. Battery tests good. Sorry for sounding like an idiot, probably am under the circumstances!

If memory serves me right the yellow relay is the main relay and the black is FI.  Easy way to figure it out.  The connector for the main relay will have 5 terminals in the connector the FI relay 4.  When you locate the relay remove it and jump terminal 30 (red/blue wire) to 87(brown/white wire).  Urn key on. If pump primes new relay, if not more trouble shooting is in order.

Kill switch?
Side stand has a switch too.....

I have got same 'bike, those two switches have given me some "oh no" moments.

Still in the hunt and these are great next steps! I was wondering how to short cut the relay, thanks guys. just thinking down the road, hopefully NOT! But is there a way to test the fuel pump without having to remove it? Out of frustration over the weekend I went ahead and ordered that relay (5 prong) $15 no big. Guess I should include the 12 pac of Modelo too.

Fuel pressure should be ~45psi with the pump running.

If you don't have a wiring diagram, now would be a good time to get one.
