Title: 95 Monster 900 burning oil.. piston rings?
Post by: savetheclutch on January 15, 2020, 05:43:49 AM
Hey guys, I have a beautiful 95 Monster 900  with 6k miles that is burning oil :( so I need some help deciding how to approach this.

the bike sat for a long time and most of the miles came in the last 2 years, we are going to do the valves and probably open it up to check the rings etc

are there any aftermarket alternatives for the parts? oem parts are expensive

we would love to keep the matching engine to the bike but I am really wondering if that is going to be cost effective, what do you think?

If the bike is blowing blue smoke upon accelerating and on deceleration in gear your problem is valve guide seals and/or guides.  Also much cheaper and easier.   Also make sure the breather valve is not clogged or stuck closed.

Kibblewhite for valves and guides.

Use the 900/800 tab. They list sizes so you can confirm.
