Hi All - im riding my 99 carbed 750 & its warmed up and running fine....it starts to run rough like its running out of gas (tank half full) and then 2 blocks later it quits - the starter cranks over slowly a few times & stops - push it home and battery is 11v & fuses are OK - charge battery and it still doesn't crank at all....any ideas as to what to check would be appreciated
Thanks!!!
First, charge the battery and have it load tested. Hmmm, 99? How's the water level in the battery? After that make sure the battery terminals are clean and tight. Still a problem? Post back and we'll take you down that trail.
Put my new battery in & doesn't make a difference....when you hit the starter button it doesn't turn over at all...
troubleshooting ideas appreciated...thanks!
Sheldon
Bad connection starter relay.
Bad yellow relay under saddle (lights on when ignition ON?).
Worn brushes in starter motor.
Did you check the state of charge on the new battery?

Did you check the state of charge of the new battery? And if it was already activated on the shelf sitting there for a long time it could be sulfated.

Plug going into the starter solenoid lacks a retention clip to hold it in place. Wouldn’t be the first time I’ve heard of one coming out due to vibration or electrical gnomes.

+2 on this and loads of fun doing 80 and the bike surges as your moving. Lol
I use a zip tie to keep it from disengaging.
Died on the road then runs a bit then dies w/no start. No click click either? My guess is broken brown wire up by steering column.
Get that battery charged and get the charging system checked.
