Title: Old board - new members???
Post by: White Lion on May 07, 2008, 03:20:52 PM
anyone else notice that back at the DML the people who are defending the 'new look' only joined this month: aka="lukering2".  These couple of people are also the ones pregnant doging about the old mods.  Could be a coincidence(spelling) but i get the impression that they are part of VS...

Why even bother going there?

This is the place!

They bought it because of the high traffic...let's keep our own "traffic" away from those clip artists.

There are so many new names of people on there I don't recognize. On a wierd note "Stew" asked me to increase more responsiblities of there as a mod  :-\ .... the only reason I was a local mod over there before was because I loved the people. They are all over here now. I don't plan to spend enough time over there to be an effective mod. Not to mention the core I saw responding to post over there now all have little guy complexes. I always thought the most effective mods were the ones you rarely realized were mods. A quite word once in a while being as effective as the constant baton.

I'm sure this kind of thing has happened before when VS takes over, but I'm wondering if they've ever had a mass exodus as it 'SEEMS' like is happening right now...

I doubt it... Most VS  owned boards didn't even realize it until the layout changed....

Besides, I think this community is the only one that is tight knit enough to pull that off...

It's a bit of a cliche, but first impressions are very important, aren't they?

So I go to the DML today, not knowing the big change has occurred, and I CAN'T LOG IN?

What is the deal?  I knew the change was inevitably coming, and I was going to 'give it try'.  But fer cripes sake, I can't even log in?  I have to send an email to the help desk?  I am no IT expert, but come on!  Any body else locked out?  How long did it take to get your log in back (still waiting for mine - I won't bother when I do get it).

That clinched it for me.  See you later VS DML, good riddance.

I'm glad to be here.

I was talking to my neighbor at work (he pointed me to the DML when he pointed me towards monsters a few years ago) and he wasn't surprised at all that the community wouldn't stand for what VS was going to do.

Now I hate to compare European bike owners, and Japanese bike owners and shit like that, because we're all bike owners in my eyes...  But...  We both pretty much agreed that European bike owners have a special enthusiasm that makes a community like this.  He's a dirt bike guy and his experiences are with KTMTalk, I don't know how many of you have been to that site, but aside from the Pre-VS DML and DMF, that is the best moto forum I've been on.

That and the fact that a striking majority of DML members told VS flat out, "do it and we'll make/find another place."  I find it hard to figure out how they decided to pull the trigger.  Just goes to show you how much they know their audience.

JohnyDucati, if you really want to log in you need to Email them for a new password.  Passwords were not tranfered over.

Stew (VS Stew, not DucStew) sent me an Email asking if he could call me to discuss my concerns.  My response:

I don't think there is much to talk about.  All my concerns were previously addressed by other Mods and myself in the Moderator's Forum.  More important than my concerns are the membership's concerns.  Read them in the General Monster Forum and No Monster Content.   If you really want to have a phone conversation give me your phone number.  Also, please remove my Mod stars.  As posted, I resign as Mod.

I'm not one to usually jump the gun and, but the old board has been ruined.  It's so tacky to intersperse adds in peoples posts.  I found it extremely distracting.

We do have a unique group here. I love the new board here but it sucks that it even has to be here. I think the worst part is all the old data from the old site is lost. There were a lot of people who started very usefull informative threads that are now gone forever. Not to mention all the pictures. Some of those we only able to be taken as the mod was being done.

The only think I'd change about the DMF is I would make it look exactly like the old DML. It was easy to use and the colors were easy on the eyes.

There is a positive here you guys.  What was old is brand new again, only more mature and when written again, you might have more experience or insight.

This board is tight.

It took me a couple of days to get a response on how to log in to the DML. Yea it sucks! i was going to give it the benifit of doubt but after spending a half hour there and sifting through that wreck i found that Spidey had PMed me with the right address to go to. I think he calls himself Lumbergh now.

I really found it amazing that when VS changed the format yesterday after that point, the DML took a really fast downward spiral.
I dont' recognize anyone over there and there are a ton of new names, as well as a bunch of banned people back on that are showing
why they were banned in the first place. :P

When I realized yesterday that VS had cancelled everyone's passwords, I poked around a bit and found where everyone was bailing to, and never even bothered to get my DML password reset. I just left...didn't say "bye bye", "kiss my ass", nothing.

IMO, VS would be smart to lock out the ability to even view any site content without a valid password, because it's quite obvious to any casual visitor right now that the DML is in its death throes.

And another thought -- not that I know a thimbleful about any of this kind of stuff, but is it possible that there is some sort of visitor counter set up on DML that pays VS some small amount from their adds whenever anyone visits the site? If that's the case, we're lining their pockets anytime any of us visits the DML anymore.

Just a thought.

The disaster is over, time to rebuild, which we are doing now.  How To is coming along nicely as are other areas.  Some things will be lost forever, some will be better than ever.
