Title: FRame - 2002 998 SBK
Post by: JDS 07 S4Rs on July 25, 2008, 09:27:12 AM
Here's a dumb question that I am sure someone knows right off the top of there head.

What frames are compatible with a 2002 998 SBK ? I am assuming the 998 monster frame is NOT a match !

Also. What would a frame for 2002 998 SBK bike be worth ?

Thanx in advance.

what do you mean by "compatible" ?

are you asking what motors are straight swap-ins, or about bolt diameters for various years, or swingarm compatibility or... what, exactly?

i know that most of motors (all?) will mount into SBK frames (though depending on here you may need to modify for engine bolt diameter), but after that you can run into real difficulties. as for swingarms, monster swingarms mount directly to the case, and SBK swingarms mount to the frame. so some machine work will be necessary depending on which direction you go.

i've seen frames go from anywhere between $500-1500, depending on condition, but it's been awhile since i've looked around.

Monster and SBK frames are not the same.

Not sure what you mean by 'compatible'.... Monster engine in SBK frame?  Swapping Monster parts to an SBK frame?

As a guess, I'd say a 2002 998 SBK frame with a clean title, ~$800.
There's other folks here that know the used parts market better than I...

Ohhh, I guess i needed to be a little more descriptive. A friend I know picked up a 2002 998 SBK with salage title. The bike is mint, ya a few things to fix, but nothing major, except that that frame was deemed salvage.

So, I guess the question should be " What frames could he use to make the bike a SBK again" ?

Who's the board's authority on this, or where can I get that info ?

Thanx

To make the bike an SBK, you're gonna have to stick with the SBK frame.

I'm not 100% sure, but I'd imagine that a frame from a 916, 996, 998 or 748 would work, as they're all essentially the same bike - just with different engines, and various suspension upgrades.

Monster, SuperSport, Sport Classic, and ST frames have different geometry, and a totally different structure.

There's my $0.02

Thanx Art,,,, but It would be nice to know 100% what SBK frames fit this motor & bodywork.

Hey mate, 996R, 998 and 999 frames are the same. All model years, all homologated models. Not RS (Ducati Corse customer bikes).
The 916, 748 and 996 frames are a little different in engine mounting hole diameters and one frame brace. But you can fit a Testastretta engine with modifications to the frame.
