Hey all,
Been a while since I have posted but have a weird issue with my bike while on vacation (e.g. this is a PITA) and looking for some quick troubleshooting.
I rode the bike last night, started no issue ran great. Stopped for dinner. Bike started again no issue. Pulled into my driveway and stalled it driving up onto my stand (not unusual).
When I tried to restart it the engine turns over just once. and stops. Instead of the normal chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-start, I get chug-nothing.
Gauges sweep, headlights come on, fuel pump whines.
I just went and bought a new battery tender and have had it on it for a couple hours. Just tried again and same story. Did a cursory look at fuses and all look ok.
ANY advice here? Battery is 4 or 5 years old. Bike has been used infrequently but was on tender except for last 3 months.
Should I start with a new battery (which I can get locally I think). Or am I staring at something more complex??
thank you for any help.
Tim
There are two small relays under the tank check to see if they both click when trying to start, one is the fuel pump iirc, I think the other is the starter relay. Mine would start intermittently. Might also want to put a volt meter on it as well, battery can look charged but not enough juice to start. If battery is more than 3yrs old this could be it. Try bump starting.
Sounds battery/charging related, to me anyway.
Load test battery after full charge, then check charging system.
You have servo-start, right?
What happens if you hold the starter button in for, say, 5-seconds?
