He’s officially on the team and has been training with those guys. Maybe that video was filmed before he was working with them. (?)

Pulling for Big Shock again this year. They won’t beat the Kamaz teams, but hopefully they snag a stage and have a solid finish.

Petrux had a mechanical today and dropped out of the race.
That's too bad. I was hoping he'd do well.

He wasn’t feeling it after the first short stage. He did a video on his IG page and you could hear it in his voice. He didn’t realize how brutal and long each stage was.

Okay, it looks like Danilo will continue the race. He and his bike were recovered by helicopter, so he’s gonna be way down in the standings. I’m guessing if he wants to race again next year they’ll use the rest of the race for testing. (?)

08:45 Moto: Petrucci continues the adventure!
Yesterday, Danilo Petrucci had to come to terms with dropping out of the race when his KTM suddenly ground to a halt after 115 km, with a fuel pump problem the probable cause. However, the Italian was able to play his trump card and take starter’s orders for stage 3, allowing him to continue his rally-raid apprenticeship. In return he received a penalty of more than 11 hours in the overall classification, but “Petrux†is just happy to still be present. “Today is another day,†was his cheerful comment at the start this morning.

08:44 Moto: Petrucci twists the knife
First at WP1, Danilo Petrucci is still on a roll at km 80, where he posted the fastest time by 30 seconds over Joan Barreda. Sherco's Lorenzo Santolino and Rui Gonçalves were third and fourth, respectively, 2′03″ behind 'Petrux'.

Didn’t look like he was gonna start after breaking his ankle. Then the mechanical and he had lost his cellphone, so the team couldn’t walk him through repairs. Race control had to step in. He was bummed, but now he’s got a second wind and is flying, plus he’s been smoking and joking. Had a stage podium, but they penalized him for speeding in the finish area. (?) He posted on his IG page about it and was really excited about the outcome. He also said IDGAF about the penalty. [laugh]

07:52 Moto: Petrucci falls but is up and away already
The first rider to start the special today, Petrucci fell after 3 minutes of racing. The KTM rookie who is opening the way for the first time in his short career in the discipline has already climbed back on his bike and resumed the stage. It is his second fall in two days. Yesterday, he fell when avoiding crashing into a dromedary.
10:24 LW Proto: The bike and quad special is halted
The bike and quad special has been halted at the first neutralisation area after 101 km. The deterioration of the tracks due to the passage of the cars and trucks yesterday, combined with recent heavy rain means that the route is impassable. The classification for stage 6 will be established at the 101 km mark.

07:47 Moto: Sanders out
Daniel Sanders was supposed to open the stage to Ad-Dawadimi this morning, but he did not show up at the start. The winner of stages 1 and 6 appears to have crashed in the liaison. The first reports are reassuring and speak of an injured left arm. He received immediate assistance and has been taken to hospital. It is a crushing blow for GasGas, which is now down to just one man, Sam Sunderland, just like Husqvarna after Skyler Howes's withdrawal. The arduous task of opening the way now falls upon the Brit.
07:58 Moto: Arūnas Gelažninkas still in control
In the Original by Motul class for bikers racing without support crews, reigning champion Arūnas Gelažninkas leads Milan Engel and South African rookie Charan Moore. Two regular fixtures, 'Benji' Melot and Romanian Emanuel Gyenes, who was runner-up last year after winning the 2020 edition, round out the top 5.
08:36 Moto: Picco flies the flag for Fantic
Sitting in 76th place overall, Franco Picco was the 101st biker out of the starting blocks this morning. The 66-year-old Italian is riding the only Fantic in the rally. The Italian constructor presented its Yamaha-based 450 XEF Rally at the EICMA show. Twice second (1988 and 1989) and five times in the top 5 of the Dakar between 1985 and 1990, Picco has 10 stage wins to his name.

He struggled yesterday. Not sure exactly what happened, but he had gained about 20 spots early then dropped back to 47. He’s still in good spirits though. He and Toby Price called Jack Miller out on IG yesterday. [laugh] [clap]
Bikes start Stage 8 in about 3hrs.
09:16 Moto: Petrucci attacks
Danilo Petrucci, who was the 47th rider to begin the special, has a perfectly marked boulevard ahead of him. The Italian, who admitted yesterday that he had got lost a hundred times, is taking advantage of his rivals’ tracks and currently occupies 10th place at the first time check, less than one minute behind Sam Sunderland. “Petrux†could still yet find himself on today’s podium.
An excellent first effort for the big fella.

Absolutely! That and getting lost. A lot of that going on this race. Petrux got lost on Stage 7, 15mi from the finish and it dropped him back a bunch. He’s still in good spirits though, did another great live video today.

Following live timing last night/morning. There was several of the leaders of stage 11 that got really lost on the first leg. Toby started first and was 46 at the first waypoint. He finished 28th. Petrux clawed back to 20.
