It was with great sadness that we learned of the death of Spanish rider Carles Falcon from his family.
On the special on stage two from Al Henakiyah to Al Duwadimi, the rider suffered a heavy fall after 448 km.
The medical teams who quickly arrived on the scene were able to assess the seriousness of his condition. He was airlifted to the hospital in Al Duwadimi, before being taken to hospital in Riyadh and then repatriated to Spain a few days later.
Despite the best efforts of the doctors, the rider succumbed to his injuries.
The Dakar organizers and competitors offer their most sincere condolences to his family and friends.

As tough as the Dakar of old. Reminds one of those times. Its a good thing for the modern rescue and support systems in place.
No doubt.

Congratulations to everyone, especially the winners of each division.
Martin Macik finally got the win in the Trucks. I’ve been following them for the past several years, and I knew he was gonna get the win, especially after he had a 2hr lead on his competition.
Ricky Brabec got the bike win. (USA) I didn’t want to jinx him because he had the lead for most of the stages. Really glad he made it stick.

To win is such an achievement in an event where just finishing safely requires everything to come together. [clap]
Absolutely! Probably the greatest test of man and machine that there is. It just keeps getting better, and the competition amongst the top teams is amazing. What a great race.
I'm exhausted watching from my couch [laugh]
[laugh] [laugh] No shit. Sometimes I need to take a nap during a stage.
