I use to ride without earplugs and the first few months was very rough because i had headaches after 30minutes of riding. After a few months, i got use to it. Ive been wearing ear plugs for the past 2 months now and i rode yesterday, I GOT MY HEADACHES BACK!!!!
Guys, I cant stress it enough, safety first, and most people never think about your ears, but just 15 minutes of 110dbs can do some damage that is irreparable. My sensitivity to certain sounds have goen down the shithole and im glad i got a bit of it back.
Now its time to get an exahust system.
Yeah, after wearing ear plugs consistently for the past few months, I went to get gas yesterday and didn't bother putting them in. Unbelievable! What a difference...even after 5 minutes I had a headache. Once you're used to 'em, there's no going back!
I thought your hearing can't recover. Hearing damage is caused by the little hairs that detect sound falling out and they don't grow back.
That is true, there are different sensors in your ear for diff frequencies. Some of them are more rugged then others. So say 50% of them are destroyed, and 25% are weakened. The 50% will never come back, but the 25% will heal. For men, the higher frequency hairs tends to go, and the lower frequencies tend to be more rugged.
I rode for all of my riding life with out earplugs ( about 44 years ) and just within the last 6 weeks I started wearing the earplugs.
The reason was because my new R has such loud pipes and mostly because when I sit in a quiet room it sounds like being outside on a warm , late summer's eve and hearing all the insects .
Well ,now if I ride and stop for a water break and then go to ride off I can tell immediately that I don't have the earplugs in or not if I have taken them out during the break.
My regular hearing has gotten better just since mid June when I started wearing the plugs.
It also makes the riding less tiring and enjoyable. I'm sure the towns people still hear me when I roll into a small town to get gas ! [leo] Dolph
