On Sunday 21 september the MOB, the Monster Owners Belgium (Ducati Owners Club) wants to aim for a new world record: they want to bring together the largest number of Ducati Monsters and set the new world record in their name.
At present the only record of this type in the Guiness Book of World Records for one type of one brand has been put down by Yamaha with the TDM (206 bikes).
The benefits of this day will go to the organisation called “Zebraâ€. Zebra, is a non-profit organisation helping children that are involved in traffic accidents, eigther having been injured in the accident or having lost a loved one.

....if the record is around 206, me thinks we could brake it no time! [coffee]
we should wait and see what their record is and the beat it!!!!!
i think that Laguna GP could have been the perfect occasion ! DAMN!
LETS DO IT!!

jk [cheeky]
errr Didn't Laguna Seca break 206 this year alone.
I saw a crap load of Monsters this year
If we could meet in the middle of the country towards the last of September........or do some thing like Live Aid where it happens at different locations on the same day around the country..or world. Dolph
If we just make "The US" the meeting place we can avoid a lot of logistical nightmares. Done and DONE.
A worthy cause, and a noble effort. But I think if they ever got to counting at Sturgis or another rally, I am sure they would have that number beat...
I vote for a Texas-based attempt at the Monster record.
There should be quite a number at Indy for the GP, even more if it was for a record if some didn't want to pay to get in the Grandstands . Dolph

+1 on both counts
a socal attempt would probably be right behind it though
I would like to come ;D
Does rentals count? [thumbsup]
my guess would be that they are going to break the record by more than 206 monsters....
so we'll just have to wait and see [coffee]
i'm thinking lagunaGP in '09 would be the most logical...
but a hell of a trip for me and a lot of others on the dmf
if when we do organize something, we'll need to arrange to have an official from Guinness there to make it official. [thumbsup]
let's do it! [moto]

i'm just guessing that california has the largest concentration of monsters in the US, am i right on that?

Er..."La Ducati Day" up in the mountains here probably had at least 40 of us show up on mosnters to the rest of the bikes that were already there.
There are often three monsters in my garage-we have a ton of them around here-middle of the country? Please. There are a ton here, it should be held in Cali, to say the least.
Damn, I don't have a monster anymore (at least not yet again).
I wonder if those who need a monster for this event could organize a group buy [laugh]

Couldn't care less.
Only thing I like about motorcycles is riding them.
I don't like looking at other ones.
I don't like watching races.
Don't care who's making what, modified what, painted what.
It starts and moves-that's enough.

...i think that would be a different record in it self. The one the MOB in Belgium is trying to set, is all in the same place.
BTW the article mentions the 206 Yamahas, but a +2k record has been set by...Harleys :)
so....

it is my understanding that the record they are attempting is the same/make model motorcycle.
so unless the harley's were the same model, we could surely get 2000 ducati's together and break that one too ;D
at the same time even ;D

Luca, is this being done as some sort of charity event? If so, there's a possibility of the deep pockets of the little oil company I work for (BP), to shell out a couple of bucks.

DP's backyard is in NH
the reason i suggested the west coast (cali)
for the event has to do with the amount of mosters out there..
i think it would be much easier to break the record...

...correct. The info i got from DUcati confirm that the largest ammount of Monsters are concentrated between SF and the west coast...
altho NY does pretty good too!...but not enough :(
...anyone that can host a url?
do you think 11x17 posters would be accepted by local dealers and shops to help spread the word to non-DMF members? How about a postcard mailing sent to monster owners in CA from Ducati NA?
...both good idaes

well, what we need is a specific URL for the event and someone who can spare some time to keep up with it...
i think all it will need is a few pages:
home
description of the event
application page
...not much more
but we do need someone who has the spare time to keep up with the updates... ;D
i dont know crappp about the intraweb and in my mind a web page works like so:
someone hosts a site and someone else designs the page....correct?

As I see it, here are the logistics to attempting this.
- Record
- Contact Guinness
- Luca has already started this...
- Document Event
- Photographer
- Guinness Judge Liason
- Submission
- Event
- Promotion
- Website
- Hosting
- Design
- Domain Registration
- Content
- Flyer/Information
- Registration
- News
- Directions
- DNA Support
- Luca has done this too...
- Promotion to dealers?
- Space at USGP (Duc Island?) to attempt? Approval from Dorna/SCRAMP? Etc.
^^^^ so organized. I love it!!!
