I am replacing the pickup coils, and the manual list both timing methods, but doesn't say if both are needed. I think I should do the static timing after installing the coils, but should I also do dynamic after getting the bike together?
If you don't touch the bracket that holds the pick ups timing will remain the same as before. You would have to set timing by the static method since you need to adjust with the side cover off. Dynamic is a running check.
they tend to refer to static as the base timing, idle timing, etc and dynamic as full advance from memory. as howie said, leave the pick up plate (the banana shaped aluminium piece) where it is and just take off the individual pick ups.
