Title: Thank you lady in the Pink shirt
Post by: Got Duc on August 01, 2008, 05:17:10 PM
So I had to run up to my Ma's house to feed the cats tonight.

Heavy traffic on the main roads so I decide to take a nice road with some sweet turns.

I start getting into the turns and am approaching a really sweet piece with some tight back to back to back to back turns.

I am just about to hit the first turn off a long straight (yes with some speed going into it) and I see a lady in a pink shirt jumping up and down waving her arms.

I stopped and 50 feet past her was an 18 wheeler trying to back into a driveway with the road totally blocked.

Had she not been there it would have been really bad.

The turn is blind and nothing but woods on both sides.

The lady apologized to me for stopping me and said that she heard me coming because of my exhaust which made her turn around.

This lady might very well have saved me from injury or worse.

I did not get to tell her thanks so....

So a big thank you Lady in the Pink shirt!

lucky you...   i had an older lady (maybe 50 yrs) turn left in front of me today and then give me the finger as she looked up and saw me bearing down on her...  her shirt?  pink!  i love it when people make the beast with two backs up and then put the blame on someone else.

Yeah I had a cager weaving in front on me the other day.... rush hour traffic, one of the busiest roads in town. I get next to her at a light, not only is she on the phone, but she's CLIPPING COUPONS!!!! I shit you not, I got her attention and nicely reminded her that her primary attention should be on the road to save the life of us poor bikers. She cussed me out on such a level the only thing I could think to do at the moment was to stick my tongue out at her. I then came to my senses and realized I was wearing a helmet therefore my tongue was having absolutely NO effect on the harangue she was dishing me. So I decided to let the Termis roar. She had to roll up the windows at that point. But I noticed she stayed on the phone and kept clipping the coupons...... she also left the passenger side windows down..... so I went to the otherside between lights and lets the pipes go over there too. Didn't do much good but I felt a little better for making her burn extra gas in her SUV running the AC.  :-\ Small victory.... eh, maybe not I think I lost that round. Moral of the story= more pink shirt ladies, less douches in SUVs.

I am glad it worked out for you too.  A few weeks back I had a SUV driving soccer mom on a cell phone cut me off.  I usually just honk or yell once and leave them be.  But at the next stop light I heard all this yelling coming from behind me (I passed her up in traffic since she is obviously a hazard to avoid).  I turned out that it was another driver yelling at the SUV soccer mom!  The only way I found out was because I went to the drive through at the bank and this guy got out of his truck, came right over to me and told me that he saw the whole thing and was yelling at the SUV lady.  At first I though ...great here we go..this guy wants to fight about something...but it also turns out he was in a motorcycle accident and lost part of his knee-cap to a driver that was not paying attention, so he felt he needed to give the SUV lady a piece of his mind on my behalf.  There are good people out ther watching your back whether you know it or not.  +1 for the lady in pink!

Yay lady in the pink shirt!  Think the driveway the semi was backing into belonged to her?  Nothing like a token of appreciation for being your guardian angel.

Just a thought.  :)

Seriously, I'm getting tired of seeing drivers do things other than driving. [bang]

time to start carrying something in the tank bag to reward them for bad habits.

After my last several encounters I'm thinking about getting a helmet cam, where I can make one smooth uninterupted feed. Taking their license plate, and then moving up along side to get them in offending activity, and their face. Anything illegal I can turn over to the authorities, and anything not deemed outside the law but merely make the beast with two backstarded I may make a web site just to embarrass them on. I'm mulling it over, anyway, something needs to be done to draw more attention to these type of drivers.

Sounds like a good idea.  If you were able to get enough good footage and start getting hits on your website, you might even make a dollar.

I think the time has come to make doing distracting things on the road be closely equivalent to a DUI or at least wreckless.  Clipping coupons, reading the paper, working on a laptop, putting on makeup, texting, etc.  All those things are just as debilitating, if not more so, than driving with a .08 to .15 or so BAC (any BAC above that and I think clipping coupons is probably safer).  At least most people who drive drunk try to pay attention for fear of getting pulled over.  The California has already outlawed talking on a cell phone and I think others should follow suit.

My father lives in the Dominican Republic and talking on a cell phone while driving can land your butt in jail...  They take it extremely serious down there, from what he tells me.  They have cops on most street corners, in the bigger cities, whose job is to pretty much pull over people (mostly tourists since average weekly wage is less than $30/wk) talking on cell phones... But, on the contrary, they DO NOT care at all if you drink and drive, and they actually kind of promote it.  On almost every street corner there is a beer vendor, where they serve PRESIDENTE ice cold, and it also has like 9% alcohol... but talk on your cell phone, forget about it!  I will have to take some video of how people ride motorcycles down there... I swear to god they can fit 4 up on even the smallest bikes.  There are not a lot of cars down there, so I guess this is why they really penalize drivers who disobey their laws.  But if you are ever down there and need to get out of a ticket... just say "no habla espanol" and you will 90% of the time get off the hook right away.  Got to love the 3rd world countries...
