So I figured I'd post in General and see if I can get these questions straight.
I'm looking for a definitive answer to what diameter my front axle is on my 1999 M900 chromo (Ducati Monster) I'm in the middle of trying to get a new wheel, after hitting a deep pot hole.
I have heard the diameters have gone from 17mm to 20mm and finally at 25mm.
Can someone who knows, (I have called several dealerships, service, and parts departments and none have that answer or can't be bothered) chime in.
I need to know which front wheels, from what years, I can purchase. I have one wheel coming and pretty sure it will fit, but not against having a secondary backup.
The wheel coming is a 1999 SS front wheel. I'll need to powdercoat it.

You have a 25mm axle (I think [evil]). The 17mm axles were many, many years ago (early 90s?) after that came the 20mm axle until about '98, '99 and ever since, all have been 25mm. You can easily check because 20mm axles are solid & 25mm axles are hollow. All 9*6 bikes have used a 25mm axle from the beginning so any of those front wheels will work as well.
I have a 99 S model which is pretty much the same minus the shinny tank. My axle was 20 mm before upgrading to SBK forks to get the mag wheels I wanted.
From what I undertand, some of the '99s ended up with a 20mm front axle, and some ended up with a 25mm front axle. I'm not sure if it was a mid year switch, or just a case of whatever the Italians in Bologna felt like doing that day... which has happened from time to time.

I guess it isn't always consistent with the years, if them damn italians were just throwing on different sized axles. but whtacha expect, right? hahahaha
