Hi. Posted a few times @ TOB couple of years ago. They no longer seem to want me.
Me, a returning rider after MANY years. New M695 (May 2006), cough and spit made me uneasy so I parked it for 16 months waiting for a solution other than DP. It didn't seem to appear so I bought the low mount DP kit and installed myself, closest dealer 400 miles, out of warranty, etc. Used the Techno Research VDST software to set the TPS and check other operational parameters and everything seems fine in the garage at a standstill. TPS at 2.7 degrees, idle at 1120 to 1150, no smell of gas, no backfire or "click and cough".
I did not balance the throttle bodies or adjust anything else. I have the tools to measure CO and balance the throttle bodies but haven't used them yet, figured the fine tuning could come later when my son is here to help me. As I said runs and SOUNDS great in the garage.
My question is to you tuner guys. I would like to take it out in the morning for a nice ride but am wondering if I might encounter some problem during actual riding that didn't manifest itself while standing still with no load. Should I wait until I've balanced TB's and set trim? Or is it ok to GO in the AM? I hate surprises.
Thanks, Gary
BTW, what sould CO level be?
CO should be about 4.5% warm. As long as the bike runs well enough for safety you could ride for a while, but, if you have the equipment, why?
Thank you, howie, for the reply. Didn't ride today due to weather.
Short answer to your question. New toy and I wanted to play with it.
Longer answer is I just got all of these tools along with the exhaust and ecu last week and am not familiar with their use as of yet, probably an all day job for me to figure out what I'm supposed to do and then actually doing it properly. Plus, from past experience I've learned that when working on things myself, it's best not to "adjust" too many things at one time.
Guess I need to do some more research on how to proceed next. Suggestions welcome.
if you haven't set the balance or the idle trim then you haven't tuned it. it might run ok, it might not.
why not just do the job and get it finished.
