Title: Painting carbon fiber
Post by: Evil_Ductator on August 02, 2008, 10:22:20 PM
Can it be done?  Is it just the same to a painter as bringing him normal bodywork?

The piece I'm thinking of doing is clearcoated, does that matter?

Thanks

Why would you paint carbon fiber? and cover all its goodyness? Thats why we have fiber glass!!!

On a serious note: how good is the clear coat? Take the piece hold it up to some light, see if it has any pinholes. If it does, i cant really help you, but if it doesnt, then you can just rough up the surface of the clearcoat, and paint over it. if it has pinholes in it, you'll need to find a way to fill them. I've tried to do it, but i kept missing holes and end up scraping the job and left it with just a clear coat

cool, thanks for the suggestions he-man...

I found a piece of body work that i like, it's a custom shaped piece and unfortunately only available in CF.

On TOB there was someone who had painted some CF with just a thin layer and you could see the CF structure through it. It really looked good. Don't remember who it was though
