I know a lot of you guys are up north/sf bay but is anyone up for a ride in the santa cruz mountains this weekend? I was thinking a blend of technical goats and with some moderately paced twisties.Something along the lines of:
84 (woodside) -> STP/Alices (break) -> Stage rd (more bumpy than technical)-> Pescadero back to La Honda (some technical areas), -> 35N (Skyline) -> Page Mill Rd (Technical) down to 280 intersection.
DATE MODIFIED SUNDAY 8/10
Meet at Chevron Gas station @ 9:00am on woodside road, leave at 9:15am SHARP.

Would love to set something up if anyone's interested. Targeting early departure to avoid the touristas/popo. Moderate experience is highly recommended for some of these roads. Page Mill can be especially tricky for those who have never experienced downhill hairpins at over 10% grade. But that being said those who dont like that type of road can always book out as we get back to Alices.
Let me know if anyone's interested. I'll keep a list of confirmed attendees updated (if theres interest). PM if interested. Pace is probably C+ / B- ish

I'd like to join in, but am out Saturday.
I'm around Sunday if anyone's interested.
Hey EEL,
I just did this route this past Sunday, only saw one Ranger and one Sheriff on the last leg over the bridge at Skyline. Had to break in the SS after Duckwrench worked his magic and adjusted the forks - the bike felt awesome! [thumbsup]
Afraid that I'm riding towards the East Bay towards San Ramon on Saturday - have fun!

Hate to say it, but... Told ya so! [cheeky] [laugh] [laugh]
It is quite amazing how something as simple as a 2cm adjustment can give you an entirely different machine. You can actually use everything the bike has to offer in its handling abilities now. [thumbsup]

And I will be the first to admit if I'm wrong...and yes, I was wrong and you were right! :)
I think I needed a few months on the bike before raising it - still haven't tamed it - but am LOVING the way it turns now. It doesn't want to fall over anymore! Didn't even know what this description meant until you made the adjustment. I can now confidently lean into the turn and cruise through it without subconsciously feeling like I need to hold it up!
Thank you thank you thank you [clap] [clap] [clap]

You forgot to mention off-camber, decreasing radius, and blind corners. Plus plenty of cyclists on a narrow road. I go faster on a bicycle than I do on a moto down there.
Have fun, can't make it, headed to Tahoe instead. :)

If you have a working bike by then. ;)
Reminds me that I need to get the suspension adjusted on the 848. Right now it's like sitting on a park bench during an earthquake.
Maybe it's just my newbness, but I'm kinda digging CA-9 right now.
damage. i wish i could make it to this. if for some reason this gets pushed to sunday i'm pretty sure i could make it. otherwise, ride safe ladies & gents. [moto]

I've noticed a lot of cyclist going up,however going down (the way we'll be going) I rarely see them. I think that road scares them as much as the rest of us. But you're right its always good to keep an eye out for them. They tend to ride 10 wide as if they're in the Tour de France or something.

They just go by so quickly going down you are less likely to see them. ;D Actually, it is quite a technical descent, not so many of us do it.
The warning also means to look out for cars on the wrong side of the road trying to pass the bikes going up.
If the ride gets moved to sun I'll come
Alrighty due to popular demand ride shifted to sunday, same time & place..roll call on those showing up requested.

Sounds awesome but I'm headed even farther North out to the coast via 128 and down 1. Enjoy!
I'm in.
For all those meeting up at Alice's please note we will meet at STP parking lot (Skywood Trading Post) across the street at 9:30am. Look for the red/white S2R with the arrow pipes.

I have a thread going, please see:

We'll be coming from Strawberry Village in Mill Valley and then ending the ride at Artesa Winery before heading back to the City.
Artesa Winery
1345 Henry Road, Napa, CA 94559
http://www.artesawinery.com/about/contact/directions/
I think scenic but also technically challenging as we'll have from 9:30 am til 12 Noon to ride = 2.5 hours - I think the ride will be a good 150+ miles to/from SF...
Thanks, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Nice riding with you EEL, and B. Turns out the alternate 10A fuse was busted too. I'll swing by the store tomorrow and swap it in for a new one.
I got a nice lesson on twisties 101 w/o a functioning gauge cluster. I don't recommend it.

word. nice meeting/riding with you too sidm. glad we figured out it was just a fuse issue!
and thx to EEL for the invite. [thumbsup]

Good ride. Page Mill was fun too. Maybe next time we'll do 9. Good riding with you B. We should do this again soon.

Sid. If the standard 15A keeps popping, make sure you get your bike checked out. It could be your voltage regulator..

OK, read your post and checked a map for the winery location. There are a multitude of options here and a lot of factors that way on them. Mebbe it would be better if you called me one afternoon/evening to hash it out? PM me for my number(s)...
