Title: Removing stock mufflers?
Post by: Dream on August 06, 2008, 12:19:33 PM
2005 S2R 800 all stock. Looking to make it sound better, but dont want to do the full exhaust setup until next summer. What I run into problems if I just removed the stock cans?

If you remove them make sure to get ear plugs because hearing loss is both gradual and permanent.  You will also lean out the fuel/air mixture by doing this to you might get some popping.  To make up for that you will have to adjust your fuel/air by getting a trim adjustment at the dealership or even better getting a custom map on a PCIII.  Good luck.  And remember in terms of the overall "health" of your bike running too rich is always better than running to lean.  Lean can damage, rich cant.

i ran my s2r1000 with only the udder for 1/2 of the 8500 miles on it.
no adjustments needed (per my local duc dealer)
of course, the 800 may be different....

+1 on the ear plugs. i found it to be too loud in the long run.
