Title: Exhaust Hanger Bracket Broke
Post by: evoasis on August 06, 2008, 01:15:15 PM
Remus DP Part, alloy. SNAP'D under regular riding conditions... Anyone have any suggestions for corrective action? I have safety wire holding up the RH exhaust now, ghetto as it may be... It works.

First off, if you have access to a reasonable priced machine shop, see if you can get one fabbed from plate mild steel instead of aluminum.   (look for a shop with a couple of real old guys, standing around looking bored.  They love that kind of stuff)

Second, whether you get the next one in steel or Al, take extreme care when you mount it that it lays right against the can.  Al is very prone to metal fatigue and the slightest bit out-of-alignment/force needed to make the bolts will greatly reduce the time before it fails.  Also, make sure you don't over tighten the bolts.  The less stress, in any direction, you put on the mount, the more durable it will be.
