just curious if anyone knows what will happen if some of the motor sensors are "missing?" im about to jump into a project and i wont need several of the sensors since the gauges are gonna disappear, but will they affect the way the bike runs and performs?
most specifically its the speed sensor on the rear wheel, the oil sensor on the side of the motor. but it may include another one depending on what i want my new setup to inform me about.
ive traced the speed sensor and it goes into the ecu, then to the gauges.

It depends.....naturally, the TPS, timing sensor, ambient air temp, O2 sensor, and air pressure sensors all affect the function of the fuel injection (if so equipped). The oil pressure sensor will not affect anything, as I had one go out, having the red light flicker or come on, and the bike functioned without a hitch. I believe the rear wheel sensor is not necessary unless you really want to know what speed you are going, and if that is the case, you can rig up a mechanical speedo.....or use a GPS unit? Eventough the speed sensor goes through the ECU, I don't think it will cause a problem, but someone with a newer bike would be more qualified to answer.
i should have mentioned, this is on a 04 800.
Curious what you're doing to it that you want to remove a working speedo setup.
its a non working speedo now. not sure what happened, but they just quit. i did some wire hiding and moving to get rid of the zipties on the frame and it just quit working. i traced everything i can think of and i cant find anything messed up or wrong, i only cut one wire the whole time and it was just extended and connected back together. every wire out of the gauges is fine and the wires from the speedo sensor are all fine so i figure its just one more time that my speedo will go out and instead of replacing it (again) with the factory stuff i can just take the board out of the housing and move it under the seat like this bike (http://www.ducatimonster.org/featured/2007july/featured0707.html) (link to featured monster from the old forum) and run a trailtech vapor.
i took the vapor that i have on my ktm and checked it and it looks like its made for the duc and follows almost exactly with the front of the top triple.
