Title: Anyone check out the Icon Automag pants?
Post by: duc_fan on August 07, 2008, 01:23:53 PM
Hey all,

Was wondering if anyone had looked at, purchased, or otherwise formed an opinion of the Icon Automag leather overpants.

(http://www.newenough.com/image/path/14948/small/Default.jpg?1207660076) (http://www.newenough.com/protective_apparel/leather_jackets_and_pants/icon/automag_leather_motorcycle_overpants.html)

I know, Icon stuff isn't all that popular around the Ducati forums (seeing how it's more popular with the rice crowd), but in looking for something I can wear when going to-from work or other gigs where I'd rather wear jeans, this seems to give me the protection of full leather, but allows easy removal for a casual jeans look when off-bike.

Looking for opinions from anyone who has them or has looked at 'em.

Thanks.  [beer]

I think they would do the trick for what you want.  I think they look pretty cool, but $240.00 is a little steep for me.

I have a pair coming for a customer, not quite my style but it will be interesting to see how the quality is.

Oh hey, definitely post up once you've had a chance to go over a pair.  If the quality is crap, then I'll find something else.

As for the price, $240 is a little steep, but I'm not seeing a whole lot of options for leather overpants with a decent, casual look (lots of textile...).  That, and I really don't feel like puttin' on a pair of Dainese Delta Perf'd pants complete with knee sliders for the commute to work.  [cheeky]

Oh, I hear the inseam on these is pretty long too, which is great for me.  I wear a 36" inseam in regular jeans (I'm one of those tall wankers at 6'4").  More than half the moto pants available are just too short, even with my full-size Sidi boots.

The pants came in yesterday. Like I said before not exactly my style but what you get for about $250 isn't bad. The leather and stitching was good, the knee armor was a little less than what you would get with say a Dainese pant but if you are looking for something easy to throw on over jeans and for a reasonable price then its worth taking a look at these. I wouldn't use them for track days or going on curvy rides but would be good for commutting or short rides. The size we got was too big so I didn't get to check how they fit.

I'd buy 'em, but like any other riding pant, they're built for you tall lanky assholes.
A 38 waist is the smallest I can comfortably go, but I'm only 5'11" and at that waist the pants are made for someone thats 6'4"

I feel your pain hank....I'm 5'10" and have a 29" inseam. My quads and thighs are wider then my waist so to get pants to fit they are loose at my waist and the knee armour is on my lower shin. :P

Just in terms of your options... Icon superduty2 pants... in black... look like relatively normal cargo pants... no armor in them but they are reinforced and pretty heavy duty... they fit loosely enough that you can slide on some alpinestars knee/shin guards and for less of a cost you are off and running. When you get to where you need to be slip off the knee guards and toss em wherever you would have put the leather pants... I don't do it for a weekend ride but when I'm going to a friends place or to do something uptown, works better than a pair of jeans.
