It would be a waste to have that go undrunk for years..

How much did it cost?  If I may ask...

This was good until they changed the blend.

I typically drink Captian Morgan Private Stock, or Barcardi Ocho.  A good white rum is Tommy Bahama  wt:

I don't buy the really spendy stuff ~

Bought one bottle of this, limited run of no more than 2000 bottles, drink it straight up, no ice no nothing ...

ron abuelo centuria (http://www.flickr.com/photos/darkmonster620/5735320399/#) by DarkMonster620 (http://www.flickr.com/people/darkmonster620/), on Flickr

And usually drink this, local ... My grandfather perfected the actual formula from the one he brought from Cuba from his distillery; mix it as usual, with cola, bout a teaspoon of water, and lemon ...

(http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2605/5735869274_941b36232c.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/darkmonster620/5735869274/)

If I have to drink withe rum, I prefer widely available Appleton State White Rum ... and mix it with almost anything as if it was Vodka ...

i have started having a rum appreciation night with a few friends

so far its been bbq and drinking whatever comes and some poker

we really should concentrate more on the appreciation part ;)

friend from scotlands dad had a regular monthly gig with a bunch of mates

the host of the night would provide a bottle of single malt whiskey

they would change house every month

a damn good idea  [thumbsup]

I started out drinking Mount Gay Extra Old but now I drink Zaya.  There have been a few other bottles in between but Zaya has been the best one so far.  Ron Zacapa 23 is a close second.  I need to find a bottle of that Mount Gay Tri.

on our honeymoon in Barbados we took a tour of the mount gay rum distillery. Didnt really get to see anything they just show you barrels that are aging the rum and such none of the actual process. The tasting after the tour was fun!
The tour guide said rum was invented in barbados and MT gay was the oldest distillery.

We usually have a bottle of the Cruzan and Black Seal around.

The Cruzan makes a mean bananas foster.   [drool]

We are currently nursing a bottle of this:

Cruzan makes solid flavored rums good for cocktails or single mixed drinks but, they tend to be overly sweet and that plus teh sweetnes of the mixer is a dangerous fatal combination !!!

Lets see, I'll update my selections.

Pyrat Pistol:

Kraken - Dark like blackstrap but not as sweet as Crazan blackstrap or Goslins Black Seal.

Captain Spiced silver for making Mojitos, but since DM620 mentioned the Appletons white (I can get it, $1 cheaper than Captain) I'll give it a shot in my Mojitos.

That Havana Club linup looks nice!

I've tried the 10 Cane, and just can't seem to get into it.  It is halfway between my preferences, I use white/silver or dark to really dark.

I generally keep a bottle of Tortuga and a bottle of Black Seal.

Tortuga is good, but if I can't find it, I'll buy some Appleton (it's made at the same place, now days).

Black Seal is my favorite to sit and drink on in the evenings.

Don Q Cristal: with Coca-Cola to drink the night/day away
Cruzan: my favorite for rum punch
Don Q a~ejo or Ron Barrilito:straight up
Pitorro=Rican' moonshine: prefer over all of the above

and

Bacardi and Captain Morgan are filth....nobody drinks that in PR.  Havana Club is made where Bacardi was decades ago before the Cuban revolution.  I've tried their clear/cristal one and  [puke]

Totally agreee on the Bacardi ... I don't drink it ... no way you gonna make me drink it ... And the HC distillery in Cuba, well, ... used to belong to the Incera family ...

Barrilito when I get my hands on it same as Don Q Añejo or any other rum of more than 12 years ... straight up with a cigar ...

Me body, read liver, doesn't get along with white rums that good, usually I drink 12 years or more rums...

If I understand it correctly the Havana club you buy in the U.S is actually a Bacardi brand

Outside of the U.S, it's a Pernod Ricard brand, which is a much better rum

certainly the HC 7 yr. old is a really great rum which sells for a nice price in Cuba.

Cristal is great for cheap rum that you can mix with anything. If you're mixing it, then it can pretty much be any brand. I prefer Don Q mostly because that's what I grew up drinking. And by growing up I mean during the holidays when every makes coquito. They don't necessarily have time to make a virgin batch but the kids would not be pounding it to get drunk. Different culture compared to the "let's get wasted" mentality found in the US.

Seriously. I couldn't believe we found something that as too good to drink that night. I'm surprised we could even taste anything at that point, much less make a rational judgement. Thanks a million for bringing that up. It will be my desert after some left over beef stew tonight.

I enjoy the Mount Gay rums. Favorite rum is probably Rhum Barbacourt 8yr. Great buttery flavor.

Not a huge rum selection around where I live, though. May have to internet some of these...
