i'm moving, pregnant doges!! just to uptown, though...so pretty much just up the road. anyone that wants to hang out and cart some boxes is more than welcome...bryant is already signed up... there's going to be hand carts, beer, a uhaul, and naked women involved, at the very least, so don't miss out! we'll probably get going like 8ish; my place isn't very big...like 700sq ft., and i have a service elevator i can use at my place downtown...so the move should just be the "average" suckiness level.
seriously, though, any help is appreciated. even if you just show up for a little bit and hang out and check the hood i'm moving to [thumbsup] good times.
Sounds interesting. I may be able to help out. I'm good at moving stuff (I don't know if that's a special talent or not, but I've moved a gazillion times). Also, I come with large truck in case it is needed. [thumbsup]
Same day as my yard sale. I have a couple tables, lamps, and a bbq pit. Come by between now and then and claim them if you need 'em.
BBQ pit eh? I may swing by your house this week and take a look-see
I'll put it on my calender. If I'm not "slave labored" by the wifely unit I'll try to be available. I too have a pickup and a Suburban and I can even supply my own convertible handtruck (unfolds into a four wheel cart thing or a regular two wheel dolly). Had way too much experience with both but don't mind sharing my "talent". Will work for beer and Gatorade! [thumbsup] [drink]
cool, man...i appreciate that. in addition to drinks i was planning on grabbing food for people somewhere afterwards as well.
Yep, I think I can make this too. I'll bring the truck if that helps?
Yup, I can help [thumbsup]

probably won't need it...i've got a 17' truck reserved and B8 may be able to bring his truck. my place really isn't that big, so that should be fine. i'm actually starting the boxing process tonight. it sucks.

I love doing wheelies & stoppies & draggin' my knee with two wheel dollies. Sadly I can't attend the big move since I have my monthly meeting of POSEUR ANON ! [laugh] [laugh] [laugh] ;D Lift with yer legs ! ;D ;D

I was seriously thinking that same phrase when I wrote the post yesterday...too wierd.
i'll plan on having an assortment of dos equis, shiner, and whatever else the CVS has on ice for anyone (natural light, anyone?? ;) )...any special requests just let me know and i can grab something from the urban market (i'm sure they could use the business). and food afterwards for anyone that has time to hang out! i know it's no pool party, so i really appreciate it!
Hmmm, let's see, a dozen people in a cramped loft with a Sweaty McKraut and no AC and in August in Texas.
How can anyone pass this up?!? ;D

Probably a good idea. I don't know. I did that sort of thing when I moved out of KY house. The moving company showed up, moved half of my stuff and then told me they would have to double the price because I didn't tell them I had boxes. I asked them how they expected to move my furniture if I didn't empty the drawers? Then I told them it was their job to tell their customer that they charged seperately for boxes. They only asked me how many square feet was the house, was there an upstairs, how many bedroom suits, etc. So, I called their boss and he cussed me out over the phone. I figured out they were trying to scam me because I was the only one there (ommyta was already here in TX-working). I paid them what I thought half the job was worth and told them to get the make the beast with two backs off my property. I called this little 80-yr old dude who had come over the day before to get my appliances and asked him if he could help me move the rest of my stuff to the storage unit. I would have rather paid him the extra $ than some assholes who were trying to take advantage of me. Anyway, he came over and the two of us moved everything else with his little S10 truck and a small trailer. On the last trip to the storage unit, I was following him down a busy road and suddenly Jade's container of old Thomas trains jumped off the trailer, hit the road and scattered everywhere. People were slamming on their brakes and honking. Me and this 80 yr old guy were running around the street picking up trains with people cursing at us. (I think I was wearing the same bermuda boxers I am getting ready to wear to Walmart). Anyway, after the job was finally done, I gave that old guy so much free stuff and $ and he was one of the hardest working people I've ever met. Needless to say, I bought some Vodka and a pack of cigs and went to my mom's.
The next day, I was helping mom get something out of her attic and insulation fell into my eye. I scratched my eye so badly I had everyone at the Dr's office coming in my exam room to see it. So, I did what anybody would do...I borrowed Morgan's sleeping mask (turned it kinda sideways), I packed my sh*t in the van, hooked up ommyta's jeep with a tow bar, loaded up the kids and drove straight through to TX (18 hours). Good times.
Your so money! [thumbsup]

just a quick update on this. i'm grabbing the penske truck at 9am saturday, and will plan on starting 10am or maybe a little before. i have a regular hand truck already, and should have an appliance once as well as a furniture roller as well. we should be set on capacity; B8 was gracious enough to volunteer his truck to help out if we had excess stuff, so that shouldn't be a problem at all.
starting address is 1309 main st., dallas 75202. it's the intersection of main st. and field st., and parking is the NE corner of that intersection (there's a flimsy little arm that you can easily ride past on a bike). park on the 11th floor (or wherever...the 11th may fill up with bikes since there are reserved spots around it...lower floors like 6-10 are not reserved) in the garage, and give me a call. my cell is 214-385-6715. the only door from the garage to the apartments is on the 11th floor (11th floor of parking garage = 9th floor of apartment building).
the move destination (aka "hood-lite") is near the lemon and haskell intersection east of 75.
i'll have some beer and drinks...other than that just come hang out even if you just want to be a "supervisor" and watch people sweat while you drink a beer. and if people are up for it we can grab some grub afterward. thanks again to anyone that can make it out [thumbsup]
I'll be there. I'll bring my pick up and two wheel dolley also in case we need it. Hey, at least it won't be raining (hopefully) and it won't be 105 degrees... how bad can it be? [thumbsup] [bacon]
Where should we park the cages? In the alley on the east side of the Davis building?
B8 and fastwin...if you would park the pickups in the alley east of the davis building, that would work best. that's where the service elevator comes out, and that's where i'll have the moving truck parked by about 9:30 hopefully. hopefully i won't have to fight anyone else for parking space in the alley; i talked to the office to make sure that no one was slated to move and they gave me the green light.
i marked up a pic of where the alley is located...it works best if you enter the alley from main street. there's not a ton of parking, but we could have a few bikes park back there also if you're not wanting to park in the garage. if others are coming in a cage...the alley can probably hold 10 vehicles at max...and that would be pretty tight, so any more than b8 or fastwin may just want to park on main street (streets are pretty empty saturday AM), or in the garage.

Hey Rich-
Do you have enough help?
Looks like I am not gonna make it out for the big moving day! >:( Sorry - really tried to work it out, but it just ain't gonna happen! I have faith you all will survive even without my special moving talents (as before mentioned)! ;D Anyhoo - Happy Moving - I'll be thinking about you guys when I am school shopping ( :P), and arguing with Oceane about why she can't buy high heeled shoes to wear to school in the fifth grade. Do you need any padded furniture blankets? I've got a couple but I need to go get them out of the storage unit if you do.

sounds like you, me, B8, fastwin, and CJ...there might be a couple more but i've been pretty out of it the last week thanks to work and moving; i haven't been really watching the board very well.
Cool. I'll swing by the storage unit and grab the furniture blankies and anything else that looks like it could be used to pad stuff... got a couple of old wool, green Army blankets that I have had for 20+ years that have been everywhere and done it all. I'll grab them too. [thumbsup] See you 0930ish!
coolio man...i'll plan on stopping by the buzzbrews like 8ish, grab the truck by 9, and should be at the loft by 9:30. sounds like we'll just have a couple trucks, so the alley parking shouldn't be a problem. i'll secure the service elevator after i get back...i have things pretty much ready to go right now. i left the bed assembled, but i'm thinking it won't be a problem. i'm looking around right now, and honestly there's not that much stuff. and i have some gatorades, soft drinks, and some beer as well...feel free to hang out a bit even if just to figure out where we're going to meet up for some food afterwards. [thumbsup]
I was hoping to make it over but I will be spending the first half of the day doing birthday stuff for the Dad-in-law. I was looking forward to watching people do work.

Hey Brian,
No you hadn't missed anything. This week has been muy hectic and I haven't had a chance to post up yet.
The race was an awesome experience despite an absentminded snafu that nearly kept me from riding. The race is held on the one and only road that climbs to the summit. It's too steep to ride down after going up, so you have to arrange for a support vehicle to take you down. They only let the vehicles go up until 8:00am at which point they close the road to all traffic. My teammates' girlfriend provided support so I gave her my bag to take up with a change of clothes. After she went up and they closed the road, I started getting ready for my 8:45 start time. First order of business... put my cycling shoes on. The shoes that are... in... my... bag... AGGGHHHHH [bang] Here I am, having paid registration fees, airfare, hotel, cycle shipping, rental car, etc., and I can't ride because I forget my shoes!?!? HELL NO.
After telling my sad story to unsympathetic officials, I hauled ass to the closest town with a bike shop (20 miles away) to buy a pair of shoes. Actually I didn't buy it just then. My wallet was in the same bag that went up the mountain. After I told the guy my story I said to him "oh and by the way, I have no way to pay you right now.". He looked me straight in the eye and said "well, I guess we'll just have to do this on the 'honor system'.". Thank god for small town generosity! I totally need to send that guy something. Oh, BTW the only shoes they had were a size too big so if you know anyone that needs a pair of size 12 SIDI's, let me know.
By the time I made it back everyone had already started so I wasn't able to get timed, but at least I was still able to do the ride, WHICH WAS BEAUTIFUL!! The weather was perfect (at least until 10 minutes after I finished when it started hailing like a MOFO). It was super steep but I was geared well so it wasn't a big deal as long as I kept my heart rate in check. The last 50 yards was intense!! At 22% I'd never seen anything like that before, let alone ridden it. People were falling down from either cramps or poor gearing. The link to the picture below shows the guy behind me being helped up after he fell.

Someone please put a caption on that picture. Or turn it into one of those motivational photos. I am referring to the guy behind Will who seems to be being pushed up the hill.
Very cool Will! Way to adapt and overcome. How did you ship your bike?
Very nice Will!! Glad it sort of worked out for you. [thumbsup] Bet you twenty bucks you won't let that happen to you again. Size 12s are too big for me. Maybe someone in your club can use them. Makes my knees and back hurt just thinking about a climb like that. Austin/hill country climbs were one thing once upon a time but nothing like that. Never been there but I know that climb and people who have done it before... it's a mother! Not surprised at the hail at the end either... only thing missing was 50-100mph wind gusts! Glad you survived, hope you had some fun in there somewhere. [clap]
Oh, and for those that are interested, I'll be spending the next 14-16 hours in bed laying on a heating pad with an ice pack on my knee eating Advil. Nice job on the move guys! [thumbsup] Wasn't record time but we made up for it by having only one injured piece of furniture! Thanks for the drinks at Chuy's Rich. I owe you next time for my second they convienently put on your tab by mistake. How come that never happens enough?? [beer] Ya'll have fun at ***'s birthday party/wrenchfest tomorrow!! ;D

We've created a Monster... :P
Hey McKraut-
How's the new place?
Hope things work out with the new roomie...
Enjoyed the move- Thanks for the 'ritas [thumbsup]
he just got back in town last night...so tonight we're going to have a little sit-down and figure out how i can go about getting some of my stuff in the shared closet space, and the admittedly small kitchen, and what the hell we're going to do with the living room. it's a sea of seating space; there's nowhere to stand. he seems like a good guy, he just needs to throw some shit away it looks like and then i think we're golden.
see you sunday at ron's.... (i typed "ribs" by accident at first....weird)
Subliminal mistake (not Sublime the band). You are making the subconscience connection of DFW/DMF get togethers and "ribfests" ala RichD... now that I think about it not a bad connection. [thumbsup]

Sounds like a race-watching-theater to me.
If I have time I'l see what I can do... [thumbsup]
Should've helped you move. Would've been funner than getting up at 0345 to drive down to cresson to enter to tech to practice to find out the bike's tranny was only good for testing on friday to trying to get some money back to having my wife drive down to pick me up to going home and weed wacking/edging the yard. Guess I shouldn't have been rubbing in the fact that I was going "racing" while you mopes were moving. Karma.
