Anybody replaced the stock handgrips with aftermarket ones? Is it easy? Looking for recommendations, tips/tricks etc. for doing so. Pics are great as always!

+1 on the progrip. I have the triple gel grips on my S2R1k and they are great...
Plus, they're cheap...
I also run the Gel Pro Grips. Not a big deal to install, just be careful with the throttle side if you use grip glue and have to trim to fit (you most likely will)
All I had to do with the grips was cut a hole for the bar end weights...
Okay my second stupid question of the day. Are all grips universal? If not, what size do I need to get?
I think it is 7/8 but I am not for sure.
Just installed a pair of progrip superbike gels (open end #780). Great fit; perfect length with no trimming at all. You can easily remove the throttle tube assembly and bring to the store to match up a set of grips.
My throttle tube has a dish "cone" shape where it meets the control. It also has a little ridge at the opposite end of the tube. The grips I got accomodated both the dish and the ridge. Many of the throttle grips I saw just had a flat doughnut like the clutch side, those wouldn't have fit well. Also some were a little too short.

bars should be 7/8.
i think most everything is, with the exception of harleys, and maybe a few of the more enormous japanese cruisers.

love 'em and took 10 minutes to install,
the left grip was tight, had to drift it onto the bar with a block of wood....
I was going to try the compressed air trick to get mine off, will let you know how it works when I get home in a couple weeks
If you are going to go to the work of replacing the grips, think about adding in heated grips at the same time.

carman, the compressed air trick is how bicycle mechanics install grips on bikes when they assemble them.
In my previous life I have exploded a few and fired a few off a set of bars like a bullet.
Do any DMFers have the pricey Rizoma Lux grips? If so, post some pics ;D

You can get regular grips and slide these over them. I think they look the business and provide comfort.

would heated grips still work well with rizoma's billet grips?
slide a nice long flat head screwdriver up the old grip and spray in some WD-40, then penetrate a little more, lubricate, then gently rotate, pull and voila! the grip comes off...no knife or compressor needed.
i fitted rizomas a few weeks ago - very nice. had to drill a new hole for the throttle pin so the grip lined up with the end of the bar, but otherwise easy job. took about 15 minutes. feel great, look v hot.
