Hey guys i have a a 01 900 and i just bought it. It has a underbody exhaust system with a different header. It only has 10K on it. So anyways heres my problem when i start the bike or when i am riding the bike and putting along at a steady 3500-4000 rpms every now and then i get like a pop/ knock sound that comes from the top end of the motor ( i think). it will also happen if i am running for a while then let off the throttle and then get back on it. I am just stumped. Apparently the ducati dealer ship in seattle told the previous owner it was the exhaust that caused the problem. But i am not to sure. Besides this random pop sounds the bike runs and pulls great. I also do notice though that it does run a little rough up till 4000 rpms though like it kinda hickups and doesn't idle real clean. I am going to order a powercommander for it today i heard that helps and that most older ducatis just don't run that clean anyways.
Any help would be great. Thanks
Can't tell over the internet, but chances are good you are a little lean, particularly if the air box is open also. You could try a having the dealer adjust CO trim. This should clean up the idle and help with low end roughness. Best would be a PC with a custom map. Do keep in mind Ducatis do not like operating under load at speeds less than 3000-3500 RPM. Oh, since the bike is new to you it might be a good idea to check TPS adjustment, throttle synch and valve adjustment first.
Exhaust gasket?
hey thanks for the replys, ya i bought a set of stock headers to replace the weird funking ones installed and a new set of custom pipes by HR1 to put on. And tomorrow i will order a PowerCommander and a BMC air filter. Hopefully that cleans it up. I almost wonder if its a backfire though.
It is IMHO.
huh
