I voted yes..... still like to see a 848 based one though, perfect blend of size and power there. Especially for street use.
nice, here's a NAKED Triumph Daytona 675 for you.
beautifully done by Triumph rider

Yuck. Ditch the belly pan and put a fairing around the radiator.
I can't wait to see how many people buy these and then decide they need clip ons instead of handle bars. Then decide that they need a full fairing. Maybe I can sell kits.
I like the S4RS much better. [roll]
There's just too much going on down there to be naked and still look good, I'd like to see them do a naked 1098 but they need to clean up the engine a bit more.
i like the comment that refers to all non fared, non "sport bike" ducati's as useless. even refers to the monster as useless.
i guess ducati didnt need the income from monster sales after all. wonder if they have my spare 10,500 to give back?
What is it with MCN? Can they not hire someone with a little experience with photoshop? Everything they do looks like crap...
Ditching the bellypan and the exhaust vavle servo would be a start.
Holy carp... glad I gots my S4RS!

Where did you read that?
Using the standard sport bike shape for a naked looks really weird IMO...
The engine? Absolutely! The shape/body? Not so much...
Also, I agree with the person that mentioned 848 too.
Voted NO by the way :o
I voted yes for the heck of it,but i'll stick with the monsters! [evil]
I personally would like a regular 1098 for track use and the occational street ride. I already have a naked beast that is more than enough for the street.

+1 on the 848 based Monster, voted yes also case I just really want to see what the next Monster is going to look like.
I voted yes. If I had the spare change I'd buy one in a heart beat.
Long as I'm dreaming, I'd rather have a 1200cc engine, though maybe tuned more for torque.
Of course I what I'd really like to have is my RS with a fully Termi kitted 1098S engine. [thumbsup]
Makes me thing of poor ole Strati and all the work he did to fit a deep sump engine into his S4 before Ducati came out with the S4RS model. :'(

The 1098 and 1098S have the same engine. Besides you said you didn't like it.
Yes, I say go for it... But do something about that hideous swingarm... At least powdercoat it!
I'm still waiting for this hot nakedness:

They could easily fit a Monster style tank and seat.
I gonna wait for the "R" version ;D
Dave R. from Ducati Seattle built a cool naked SBK from a yellow 748/996 awhile back. Ducati should ask him for advice! [thumbsup]

I saw one of those in person. Very cool bike.
looks so much better with the fairing for reals
Seriously with no wind protection on a naked 1098 how fast can you really go the 848 would be much better as long as the keep the clutch dry with extra [bacon].

I was peeping at the NCR site like a perv and happened to notice
the Macchia Nera concept bike. It has 185 liquid-cooled horses of fury.

Wow! really?
When did I say I didn't like a 1098 Bob? I must a been on drugs. I may have said I couldn't afford one or that I'd want a fully kitted S model over the stock bike, but I sure do like em. [moto]
LA
i voted no. i prefer the S4RS over that.
I must say I don't like the naked 1098 look. I love the look of the S4Rs and the 1098 R. I don't believe I'd like a naked 1098 R.
Ducati needs to come out w/ a hotter version of their new bikes. A 848 R, S4Rs R, 1098 R, and a 1098 RR.
Step each model up by 15-20 HP. Dolph
I know the S4RS chassis is supposedly outdated, but one fantasy of mine is an R version of it. Looking at Brad Blacks Ducati capacities on his Moto-one site it looks like some parts bin engineering could make a real Monster of a motor.
With the 104 mm bore from the Testastretta 999R you can get capacities of 1079, 1087, 1121, 1155, 1189, 1215 by using cranks of 63.5mm to 71.5 mm strokes. Even with the last 999S head of 40mm intake size it would make one hell of a stump puller and even better with the 42mm heads of the 999R.
The big throttle bodies wouldn't fit I guess as Ducati didn't use the 54mm ones on the RS, but I wonder if the oval throttle bodies from the 1098 would. Like I said, just a fantisity anyway.
LA
I thought they didn't use the big boy throttle bodies and injectors because of clearence issues with the airbox and tank?
I too have dreamed of a Rs with a little more snot, but usually for me I wish my termi Rs had a little more steam up top. To me the power doesn't taper off very much before you run into a really hard rev limiter.
I vote yes to a 1098 Monster. But NO to that one in the Picture. It could be modded of course. I can hardly wait.
Oh,,,, LA. Quite the fantasy,,,,hmmm. That would be pricey,,,,,,wouldnt it ? ?
Would the current S4RS frame handle 160 RWHP ?
160 horse is probable the max and maybe a little too much. I always figured they were good for at least 150. Having said that, I'd love to give it a try. ;D It would take a lot more than a kitted 1098 to put 150 to the pavement.
I wonder if there would be any difference in the frame if it were fabricated out of 4130 instead of the ALS steel that Ducati uses. I believe even the old bev. drvs. were 4130. Even the old Nortons had Reynolds tubing, which is for all intent, the same thing.
In the end though the short cut is to buy the "new" model, which is why I went with a S4RS rather than try to do it myself with an s4r. Not many of us can come close in the quality of manufacture for the price point offered by the factory.
Hell, I'm VERY fortunate to have the bike I have. [thumbsup]
LA
I'm at my happy street limit with 130 hp. (and track too if I'm honest). When I can loft the front or spin the rear with my right hand at will I am now past my expertise and should start thinking of other things that make me happy with a bike.
So a high spec supermono would tempt me in a way that a heavier 170 hp naked bike never would.
The Bimota Tesi3d makes me all hot and bothered with 85 hp.
I'm heading lightweight, not high hp for my next adventure in motorcycling. (NCR Millona? drool).

I never knew the old bevel drive bikes were 4130 chromoly. Can anybody confirm this? I did a couple of searches but didn't see anything on the net.
A 1098 in the CLASSIC Monster style -with a trellis frame- would work. No new styling exercises please.
You know back in the good ole days we all took for granted that the old Bev. Drv. frames were 4130. I looked on the Bevel Heaven site and didn't see it on the old brochures. The Campi wheels on my old 80-900ss are listed as magnesium though.
I'll ask on the Bev. Drv. forum and see what is said. I drop you a PM and let you know what is said.
And you are right Chris, 130 HP is enough if I'm honest about it. I'm actually slowing down a little for the first time in my life. Probably a good idea if I want to continue to have a life. [moto]
