So Tiffer's and I just spent 10 days down in Grand Cayman (brother's graduation from St. Matthews Medical School, in Grand Cayman).
Duty Free shopping on Islands is probably the biggest sham. Duty free in US Airports is pretty much a sham too (a Liter of Bacardi is 15$. I can get it in Ohio for 13.35).
I guess the reasoning is that people think they are getting a good deal without price shopping in the States, online, etc.
Tiffer's and I were looking at wedding bands for me. 1290$ for the band I want.
Checked when we got back home: 840$ plus tax.
The only good deal was in the Airport in Georgetown.
Liter's of Tortuga Rum: 10$ USD.
Can't go wrong there wt:

Tungsten Carbide is really cool, but if they need to cut that ring off your finger........might need a plasma cutter.
This is a Cartier white gold band

Was looking at white gold, but too shiny. I work with my hands a lot, so I knew I'd be banging up whatever I wear. You're right on the cutting... I'll just hope I never find myself in that situation :o

yeah, the whoaman went on a cruise a couple weeks ago, and brought me back some Ciroc vodka
...turns out it was the same price at the albertsons behind my house
Really?
Whoa...back from the dead. 5 1/2 year old thread...must be a record! [laugh]

Really?
Yeah, but it was probably a steal compared to today's prices though. You know, accounting for all these years of inflation and everything. ;D
Seriously though...
I laughed my ass off reading those first few posts in this thread. Thanks for dredging this one up! [thumbsup]
Right! The ring I was talking about we bought in 2008.

Yep.
And just to clarify, I didn't mean to say that the first couple of posts were funny because of anything you said.
Specifically about the way some people try to perceive themselves.
Cartier wedding band. Hope that knocks a few bucks off the bill for the wiener extension surgery.
Humility is key in my world.

And JudDDddDDDdDD was never very good at that.
at times it does seem like a "bargain" specially when I compare prices between the "duty free" and local . . . for example a bottle of Johnnie Walker Platinum, was $99.00 and it came with a "second for free" of same size or smaller of anything I wanted, plus, it was still not available locally . . . now, I would pay the $75/bottle + 7% sales tax + 15% alcohol tax . . . and just carry it a few kilometers . . .

Tungsten Carbide is fairly brittle when struck though so while you may not be able to cut it off a hammer should do the trick ;D
Yeah, that's another thing that pisses me off.
That myth that tungsten rings can't be removed is stupid.
