Title: Speedo error
Post by: Kevin848 on August 15, 2008, 09:05:41 PM
So they say your speedo is off by 7 to 10% or so... Well officer Dan confirmed that mine is right on. Clocked me at 63 in a 45 and thats exactly what the speedo was telling me when he passed by on the opposite road.

I pulled over, killed the bike and started taking my helmet off when he told me dont bother. He said he appreciated the fact that I stopped so he wasnt going to write me... just told me what he clocked me at and to slow down.

Thank you officer Dan where ever you are!

[evil]

That's grreat! That is a really cool officer. I have often heard of officers thanking riders for pulling over and not making them give chase. I have never thought of doing that but I guess it must be common practice to try and outrun cops. Unless you have several outstanding felony warrants for Capital Murder or are a wanted terrorist why bother? If you get a ticket you probably earned it. Big deal. That's a nice gift from a good cop! [thumbsup] [leo]

;D I think it's a rule that you get off with a warning IF it is a cool day in August, during the full moon, & you are traveling to/from Hooter's.   [leo]  Congrats on the Hat Trick Mr. K !

Man, that's really cool that gay (not that there's anything wrong with that) cop [leo] let you off the hook.  Good deal!  [thumbsup]

I gotta be honest, I flirt my way out of every ticket... ;) [evil]...but Tommy gets a ticket everytime.  Where do you guys find these cops?  Why can't one of them pull him over?   >:( [leo] [bang]

Maybe I should quit trying to flirt my way out of it?

Coolest officer to ever pull me over, clocked me going the opposite direction at 15 over, but after pulling me over and looking over insurance and ID, proceeded to bs with me about bikes for a half hour on the side of the road. Great Guy!

Good idea! [laugh] [leo]

I thought warning tickets were an urban rumor or myth until I actually got one. In OK on the Talihena Scenic Drive. On the Busa flying down a hill at 100+ and there at the bottom is a LeFlore Co. Sheriff coming at me. I'm done so I roll past him, wave and pull over. He pulls up and when I remove my helmet he does a double take expecting me not to be the old fart that I am. I think it worked to my advantage. [thumbsup] Probably thought I was borrowing my kid's scooter! [laugh] Says we have a problem, that the speed limit is 55, I say yes sir and he takes my stuff back to his car. Just like El Matador's officer he writes me a warning ticket and proceeds to bullshit with me for 20 minutes about all the crazy bike wrecks he's worked and all the Rossi wannabes he's chased on the Drive. Very nice guy. Told me The Secret about the drive... it's not patroled Monday through Thursday, only Friday through Sunday. Nobody up there during the week, it's not worth their time to patrol it. And yes, it was a Friday when he was there. [moto]

you dont have to be first you just can't be last... if you are the only one then you r screwed!! got 2 friends i was in the corps with that are fwpd and they both say that if you look in the mirror and he hits his lights and you just pull over right away then MOST cops won't write you the ticket. however phillip says if they are dressed in "squid" gear they get one and a lecture on gear. he happens to have a gsxr-1000 but will only ride at track days because he says he knows the feel of wanting to open it up on a country road and it would not look good for an officer to get an 80 in a 55 ticket.

Only 80 in a 55? [laugh] Hey, that's good they give the squids a lecture on gear. I like that. Some friends of ours have a great kid that started college last year and he wanted to trade up to a sportbike from his Honda VTX cruiser. His parents bought him the CBR600 he wanted but he's paying them back... loan NOT gift. They ride too. But it was good to hear from them that he went to High Five Cycles for something (bought the scoot at Al Lamb's Honda across LBJ, heck, Dad got a new Aspencade for himself while he was there!!! [thumbsup] [moto]) and the staff gave him so much shit about being "under geared" that he spent his own hard earned money on a nice new Shoei, gloves and ICON riding jacket! Gotta love that. His Mom worries about him but I told her to be proud that he took the hint and spent his own big bucks on some really good gear. Smart kid. [clap]

I bet the cop also appreciated that you stopped, turned your bike off, and were taking your helmet off.  All that shows a mature rider as well as someone who is starting off non-confrontational

I had hoped that I handled the situation correctly and looks as though I did... I can only hope that any future run ins with members of law enforcement will go as well  [thumbsup]

I actually got pulled over by a state trooper for speeding while I was on the way down to College Station to sell Jesus the 996.  I pulled over, got off, and took off my helmet.

He had clocked me for speeding, but didn't tell me how fast I was going (hum...).  So I started to tell him that my clutch was stuck in 4th gear and that if I had gone anything slower than 75 (it was a 60 zone) that the bike would have stalled out right there in the middle of the highway.

He said he didn't understand.

So I explained to him how if you go a slower speed than the minimum speed the gear was intended for, the motor has a hard time catching up to the gear speed that is selected, and instead of continually trying to catch up, it just shuts down the motor and stalls out.

He took a look at me, looked at my gear (full leather suit, boots, gloves, helmet, and earplugs) and decided that I was telling the truth, so he let me off with a warning.  Then he started asking me questions about the suit.

What a guy.

You're a lucky man Kevin. I'm on "probation" in 3 different cities due to my conspicuous travel habits.

Starting the conversation by questioning their revenue generation agenda while real crime goes unsolved is a bad idea…

Yes very high on the humor scale but pretty bad in all other aspects. Thanks and good luck with that probation stuff.

If your going to get the ticket anyway, may as well tell ‘em how you feel…

Probation isn’t so bad. I just can’t (get caught) speed(ing) for a total of 6 months in Fort Worth, Hurst or NRH to keep the violations off my record. I actually like this policy; fresh start every 6 months.

I would say super cool...especially after running into him.  I take it he was ok?   [cheeky]
