I’m working with what I have so far. Not a lot of accessories for this bike yet, but I think it has a lot of potential. It just needs some time. I'd really like to hear any suggestions. Thanks! :)

I saw one roll by the other day on the street. I'd say I like it better than I did the first time I saw it in the showroom. It still feels like too much of a departure from the original but it's growing on me.

Very nice but I find myself feeling like I'm looking at a modded older monster instead of a modded new monster. [thumbsup] I guess that's the point though? [thumbsup]
Thanks for the open minded comments. I've never owned a monster before and I can understand why people that own the original style want to keep it up on a pedestal. It's a beautiful bike. But I think with time the new body style will have it's own identity. :)
I like just about everything about the 696 except the swingarm. So what're you going to do about that?
I'm not sure what I can do to it. What would you suggest?
I would still like to see the headlight about an inch farther out. And have it fit a 6'2" body better.
Lookin good. [thumbsup] Have you seen the Quat D CF highmount pipes?

Thanks! Yes, I have seen them. They sound good, but I think the ex-box would clear out the space between the tire and seat and would give the 696 a hole different look.
I hear ya. If you get a chance pull the cans off to give yourself an idea how it might look.
I thought of the same exact thing when i saw this bike...it has a ton of potential. I have trouble telling people that sometimes though...meaning there are definitly some parts that dont exactly make the bike look all the great, and when i tell people that, they start to wonder why i bought it in the first place. But anyways, this is my first bike. Ive been around bikes forever and i think i have a keen eye for what works and what doesnt work for bikes....so i look foward to making mine stand out from the rest, in a good way.
Your 696 looks great! I'd leave the front hugger on though. Since you're going for a blacked out look, anodizing the forks would be sweet.
I'm not sure what else you can do to it, the model itself is still in the teething stages. I can't wait to see what people dream up for the new platform [thumbsup]
It has good potential, have you thought about chopping the tail to make it look meaner a bit more?Nice ride BTW. [thumbsup]

I actually did put the front fender back on today. It does look better. I'd like to make the forks black too, but I've never attempted to take them off of any other bike before so I don't really know how in depth it is. Is there anything I can do to change the color w/o removing them?

I did think about it but my girlfriend and son would both kill me. They like riding. It would look great though. Maybe someday.

I'm really not sure if there's anything you can do about the swinger besides replacing it with a custom one.
Maybe if the 696 style sticks around Norm will end up making some trellis swingarms for them.
Very nice. I like the way the 696 looks...I'm in the minority.
Rob
Look'en better.. Rear fender chop?
Um, read the OP.
Saw another one in white the other day, it's my favorite color so far. Much nicer looking than the black and red IMO.

I think someone shold cut a hole out where the indents are in the swingarm to mach teh rearsets. It would take some fabrication skills but I think it needs it. Look at the CBR similar to that swingarm.
Or the Desmosedici. ;D
Thanks again for all of your input guys. I think I'm going to get the rearsets powdercoated black next week. ;D
PLEASE put a picture of the black rearsets when you get it.

It just feels small to me. My legs go all wonky and don't quite fit into the cutouts.
I'm not saying you are wrong, only that I am right. ;D
I'm 6'1" and it feels fine to me too. I guess that's 2 to 1. You're wrong. :P J/K

That's interesting, because i felt like i was splayed wide for the world when i tried on the 695... one of the things i loved about the 696 was that my legs tucked snug into the cutouts. 33" inseam.

Maybe I shouldn't wear my 5" studded white leatherette platfroms when I ride, but I just love them so much!
I've placed an order on the comp werkes tail kit. I'm hoping in will be here by the end of this week. I'm going to paint it black before I install it. I'm also getting my rearsets and grey headlight bracket powdercoated flat black to match the rest of the bike. I should have those back by Friday, I hope. I live in Florida and can't ride this week anyway due to the tropical storm. [bang] I'll be putting everything back together and posting pictures by the middle of next week. Get your popcorn ready. [popcorn]
I've updated the ORIGINAL POST WITH NEW PICTURES after getting my rearsets and headlight bracket powdercoated black and installing the tail kit. I'm not sure which mirrors I'm going with yet and I'd like to replace the cans with some type of under mounted exhaust. Nothing like that is available yet. If I go with the termis I'm going to have my pipes ceramic coated black. I'm also thinking of wrapping my forks with a matte black vinyl film. What do you guys think?

Thats one way of looking at it! [laugh]
How much did it cost to gets those parts powdercoated?
For the rearsets and headlight bracket it was $100. The ceramic coated exhaust guards were $75. The guy that does the work is the same guy that does Billy Lane's stuff. Precision Powdercoating in Melbourne Florida. He does good work.
Looks great. [thumbsup]
LOVE the headlight piece.
but surprisingly, not so sure about the rearset. didnt' realize how grey the swingarm was until next to the black rearset.
maybe on my white bike it would allow the white to pop more.
I like how all your pieces are being subdued with black.
would you think black lanesplitters would good with your bike?
Yeah, when it's sitting directly in the sun light the rearsets do look like a different shade of black than the swingarm. But I still think it looks better then the grey. I think I'm going to end up getting the CGR mirrors. I just want to look around a little. Thanks for the input. ;D

My black 696 will be here in a couple weeks. You've done EXACTLY what I'm going to do to mine. The one other thing I'm doing is having the cans powdercoated black as well. AWESOME bike!!!!

Thanks! I'm going to go with an undermounted exhaust and take my cans off. The next thing I'm going to do is black powder coat the handlebar risers and top triple. Then I'm going to put black vinyl film on the front forks. Then she will be totally murdered! (Blacked out) Good luck and let me know if you need anything while taking apart your bike.

A tail chop would not have any effect oh whether or not you can ride two up...He meant the crappy plastic tail that holds your plate.

I already have a tail chop.(Pictures in original post) I assumed he was talking about doing something like Celli did to his bike and totally get rid of the back seat. My bad.
Here's a picture with the cans pulled off. I wanted to get an idea of what it would look like when I get the undermounted exhaust. [thumbsup]

you might want to check the total suspension travel length to make sure you have room until full compression.
I have been thinking about a single side exhaust. kinda like they did with that offroad monster. http://www.terramostro.com/gallery.cfm
you could simply cut the exhaust at the crossover and then run a single exhaust

Thanks for the advice, but I'm ordering a boomtubes exhaust system from Motocreations. He said it would be ready for the 696 in December sometime and it's a plug and play system.
crap just realized what you are doing. kinda like the udders huh? interesting.

Me too! ;D He said they're around $700 plus shipping and any extras.

Extras? What constitutes extras?
Not sure. I'm assuming that it may be the chrome tips on the end of the pipes or something like that.

I emailed the guy that makes them and he wrote me back and told me what I said before about December.
I've just completed the vinyl on the front forks, painted the air intake screens black, and had the handlebar risers powder coated black. I'm not sure if I'm going to paint the stock cans black yet. I'm going to get an set of boomtubes as soon as they're released for the 696. I'm sure I'll get bored and just paint them until I get the other ones.

really really really REALLY nice work, man...
now thats the way a dark SHOULD look...!!!!
keep it up...;)
Are you planning to ceramic coat the exhaust from the cylinder to the cans? I saw a motorcycle exhaust coated in matte black, and it looked pretty sweet. Would look really nice with what you are going for I think...
http://www.performancecoatings.com/index2.html
This is flat black ceramic coated exhaust.
Since your going with boom tubes just do the high temp rattle can black.
Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'm not sure if I'm going to mess with the stock exhaust. The boomtubes are ceramic coated black from the head back. He told me they would be out sometime in December for the 696. I might just wait for that. Thanks for the pictures too. [thumbsup]
blacking out the forks TOTALLY changed the bike.....
howd you do it....
vinyl sleeves....?
do tell....

Black vinyl film made by LG. I got the idea from another post on here. It's like a hugh sticker that you have to stretch on the forks while keeping the wrinkles and bubbles out of it. It was kind of difficult to put on but it does make a big difference.

Thanks man! Good luck with yours. Let me know if I can help.
Hey Murdered, Your bike looks really good! Better than [bacon]. I'm doing something similar to mine, I'm wondering about how you got the vinyl on and where you got it? Here's a pic of mine, in case you get bored and want to take a rattle can to those cans.
I found the vinyl online, but I didn't keep the web site. It's LG vinyl film. It's cheap. I think I paid $20 for a role of it. As far as putting it on. You just have to play with it. I had trouble the first 6 times I tried to put it on but I eventually got it. Good luck!
Anyone who's powder coated the cans- Did you do High-temp or regular? I called the local powder coater and he said regular coat is good to 700 degrees and high-temp has inconsistent results. I would assume regular coat would be fine, but thought I'd get some input first. Thanks
I hate, hate, hate to do this but.... The Murdered Monster is for sale. :'( I'm a single father and my kids needs come before mine. [bang] But it has to be done. I've put it in the monsters for sale thread. Located in Central Florida

understand the feeling. my bike isn't even licensed because i'm having issues with my ex over the kids.
you're a great dad for making the tough choices. don't worry, life will work itself around for those who do the right things at the right time. save yer pennies, you'll get another bike one day.

If I was making room for the M1100 I would keep my maintenance plan with the dealer and use it for the new bike. I have to unload it all. It comes with the bike.
