Title: project car (limo..)
Post by: wbeck257 on May 08, 2008, 07:00:52 AM
(Note: I posted this on the other bored -- right before all that happened, well happened... I figured I'd bring it over here.)

My $700 American Dollars 1986 Cadillac Brougham Limo
(it even runs, and well at that...)

Plans:
-Step 1: Rattle Can Flat Black (9 cans got me half done), skull on the hood.
-Step 2: ...?
-Step 3: Profit.

I really have no idea what the hell is wrong with me, and why I buy shit like this...

Discuss.

Update 5-5-08:

A little update... today after my final (that went horriably bad) I stopped by to see progress.. that is what I got. Rattle can black, and rattle can gold. We loaded up and went and got some mexican...

My buddy has both a kegorator and a jager-machine. The jager-machine will hook right up to a power invetor -- mounts are being built soon. The kegorator is a little big to fit inside but plans of a trailer for it...

We are in the process of finding some steer horns. As for the other horns a friend is dontating a pair of train airhorns. We've also gotten promised atleast 4 differnt sets of subs and amps. I need to find a new head unit. Homeboy before me (which is a whole other story) used a headunit out of a boat...

Sun-roof is in the plans. I want to do this one right. Something that can open and close and seal. Checking around junkyards for donor areas. Welding is a skill we actually have.

The idea is to keep this as cheap as possiable. Donated parts, homemade, and ghetto as shit is great... This is the stupidest, but greatest thing I have ever done, but goddamn I love it.

Anywas, I'm keeping this thread alive for the progess (destruction) of the brougham...

Update 5-8-08:

Well, I found out this car isn't too good for the enivornment. I failed the shit out of emissions yesterday. N0x is fine, everything else is 3 - 5 times the legal limit. It apparently is running a little, uh, rich... Gonna spend some time on it soon looking for vacume hoses and shit.

Went to replace the spark plugs and ran into some trouble with that. The ones AutoZone sold me don't fit. So I took the old ones in and they cross-ref. the numbers on the ones I pulled out and said the ones that didn't fit were the right ones. I tried another autopart store, and theirs don't fit either. So I just put the old ones back in... I got 20-something days to figure out the emissions thing before I really need a tag. . .

Awesome. I can't wait to see how this turns out. I have a cousin who did the same kinda thing w/ an old hearse. It's completely badass.

could you get a collectors or hobbiest plate to avoid emmisions?

some states let you get classic plates for anything 25yrs or older - but 1986 would be too new

I'm not expempt yet -- 25 years. And as for a multi-passenger exemption, the car is techincally still registered as a normal Cadillac Brougham

There are a couple of ways around it. Only certain (Metro Atlanta) areas are required to pass emissions. The county I live it now requires it. I can register the car in another county -- I just need a valid address (friend, co-worker, etc...). So thats an option.

Plan B is that techincally in the state of GA you have to register / tag the car within 30 days of purchase. Well, on day 30 I could just "sell" the car to a friend. Now he's got 30 days... Problem is, the "TAG APPLIED FOR" attracks a lot of  :leo: attention. I know I'm going to get pulled over soon and when they see my friends and I the drug dog will come looking for nothing... I'd liked to be as legit as possiable... not low-key, just legit.

Plan C... well, it is a sniffer test... um... maybe some  dr:: 's for a certain person will help this car pass...?

You are either running pig rich, your cat is dead, or both.  I assume if it has a misfire you would know.  The failure shouldn't be too hard to find.  Since you don't want to spend a lot on the car and may have already gone over budget on rattle cans, some shade tree tests you can do.  Does the check engine light work?  Is it on?  If so, check out Cadillac self diagnosis on the Internet.  The climate control panel has some pretty good scan tool capability.  The failure is gross, so you have a chance of finding the problem.  Bet it turns out to be MAP sensor, coolant sensor, fuel pressure regulator or purge valve (usually does not show up as a code)  If the cat is not much hotter in the back then the front your cat is dead.

chop the backseat/trunk area so you can mount a cycle carrier.  that way you can take your bike in style when you take it to Daytona, Sturgis, or wherever the road may lead.   dr::

It's lookin a lot better than the Limo that drives around town here. Trunk latch broken, looks like they live in there at least part time, dirty....

I saw a stretch Dodge Nitro limo today. I might consider it as worse because it was so damn goofy looking.
