Anyone out there? Was wondering where folks were dr:: at tonight...
waldo's for karaoke night...
like EVERY friday night.
I can't not show up, or jean talks shit the next time I see her ;:|
Man, Alex and I went down to the Hide Away last night. They have a serious assortment of beers down there for REALLY cheap!! I got a Spaeten Optimator (Bayerisch doppleboch) and a drink for Alex and only spent $3.50!!! be::
Hideaway is a good place for beer, no doubt. I have enjoyed my time there on weekdays, but I have had, umm, military experiences there on Friday/Saturday nights. Which is a shame, cause it's an otherwise great place.
Military experiences? Care to explain?
As in, it has been a bar where I can go and feel like I'm in the military. Depends on the crowd, of course. And it's not always bad. I prefer it to Kemoo Farm, that's fer darn sher.
Well, it IS on an air station. ;)
and kemoo is an army bar...
I guess that is what I am saying. You can't really expect to get away from things like that if you are hanging out at a bar on post. They sure do have good beers though. ;)
Hideaway -- good beers. My dad was a 30 year man. Years ago my buddies & I used to skydive with Seals and the GoldenKnights, once when they came over. I can hang with the military.
Kemoo Farms -- don't know what it's like at night because they have a cover charge (???) During the day there's a lot fewer military and lots more biker folk. Predisposed towards Harley's, yes, but I don't hold that against them and they don't seem to mind the Ducs.
I gotta say, if there's one thing this island has got right, it's the biker folk being cool with other biker folk. Almost every rider, be it on Harley, Kawi, Suzuki, Duc, whatever, is cool with every other rider. [thumbsup]
But Kemoo farms is still WAY too military for me.

Got to love pregnant dog beaters, but only if they have the proper number of stains on their shirts... ;)
what are you doing still up? i gots alcyhol to blame.
I've got caffeine. ;)
My friend, who has more wine than I have flatware (by far) was having a graduation party for his gal ( who is also uber-awesome). at LEAST 10 bottles were opened. I sampled them all, and drank a-plenty from the good ones. It was a good evening.
Sounds good to me! I miss our old wine collection from Germany. Sure was nice being only 30 minutes away from France... :(
i kill you good
Uhm... Yea, ok. 8)
sorry. i needs slleep.
No worries, as do I. Off to bed for me so I can get up early and polish/wax the Daytona.
so I have noticed that there are two types who are not particularly cool to the other bikers.
the full baggers w/windscreen type (and where do they think they're going on the rock???)
the new-school stretch-and-rake-chopper-dudes. they're too bust looking badass to wave back.
but anyway. I should lie down now...

That is true. Oddly, I ran into both species last weekend. The baggers were in a group of 6 or 8, in 2 perfectly spaced rows, probably concentrating far too hard on keeping the precise distance from the guy in front of them to wave, and I just assume that the fancy chopper guys (who are inevitably wearing jeans, a tank top, and sunglasses), are have there eyes closed so they can visualize how cool they look.

Don't forget their flip-flops!!
Speaking of which, Alex and I saw some dude on a GSXR on the H1 yesterday. He was all kitted up, leather jacket, textile riding trousers, helmet, gauntlets and a pair of sandals. What the hell was this guy thinking?
wow.
I think that's better than the guy I saw once in haleiwa who had everything. full gear! but his lid was attached to the side of the bike...
Maybe he just had his hair done?
he looked military.
I assumed he was trolling for jail bait.
I saw a similar guy yesterday when we were on our way to the NEX pet shop. Some dude, navy from the look of him, was at the light on an SV with his pretty sunglasses glistening in the sun. I wanted to tell him how much of a twit he was, but I got over it...

Howzzat? Did he have a mop in his back pocket?
Nope, but he had Chief written all over him. Looked like he was about to be on the prowl for little filipino girls...
sounds about right.

Every day at just tacos? you'll need to start running with ben! [cheeky]
...only if I eat.
Have no fear, I cannot seem to motivate myself to run once I get home. And I already wake up too early as it is, not a chance in hell that I am going to get up any earlier to go run before leaving for work...
But on a lighter note, my track bobbins and carbon tank pad came in today. [drink]
nice! I can drink to that! ;D
Me too. Want to come help drink, I mean put them on. ;)
hooray mod days!
we still need to get one together for R-Lo's nekkifying
And my header wrap day! ;)
These two new ones aren't really mods though, just slight additions. Think they will find their way on the bike here in just a bit. Sure hope I don't catch the carbon fibre bug and end up selling the golf just to afford a full carbon fairing set. ;)
speakin' of wrap, I need to find a way to shield the underside of my tank... she gets a lil toasty when running.
I'm sure I'd be free this weekend... R-Lo? you in?
we still need tools though. lame.
Alex is off on Saturday, so I am booked up with that. What tools do you need? What are you planning on doing? I've still got the dremel. ;)
I'm probably free for Saturday. I have that annoying voice in the back of the head saying "Saturday... Saturday" as if it's important for some reason.

That voice is us saying "don't get so drunk on Saturday night" so we can go riding on Sunday. ;)
I am IN on Sunday. No matter what. I'll ride down in the rain and you guys can cage your way there and laugh at me. I will not, under any circumstance, back out.
probably. [cheeky]
Way to step up there brother. ;)
Actually, one of my coworkers might come out and meet up with us. Please be kind though if he does. He rides an R6. ;)
HOORAY WORK!!!!
at least my saturday is free.

Funny that you should mention that. I was talking to him yesterday and said something about the fact that you had been considering an R6. I also told him what you had in the stable at the moment and his eyes kind of lit up. ;)
so I have sorta begun entertaining the idea of drinking myself into oblivion.

It's Friday. It's sorta close to the beginning of Summer. Close enough anyway. I'm making my first Mojitos tonight for the wife & I, and maybe the upstairs neighbors if they're halfway decent. The Mojitos, that is. Might have a cigar with the drinks too. Yummm. Just a little over 12 hours to go. [beer]

I had to look that name up.
I've seen it, too... many moons ago...
w00t! restocked on booze!

arrrr!
call me crazy, but this piraat ale seems a touch fishy.
it is also not very effective sleepy juice.
Yea, it is kind of hit and miss. Probably my least favorite Belgian ale.
So where do you pick up your hooch anyhow?
I had a taste of Blue Moon last week. Reminded me of soap.
Good designer soap?

Kind of sweet soap actually. It almost tasted like a fruit flavored beer like those that tried to make into the beer market a few years ago.
I'm not impressed with Stella Artois either.
alot of teh blonde belgians have fruitish notes to them, but they're far from fruity as like, say, lambic...
bit hey, whaddaIknow? I'm a machinist! I think... ;D w00t!

Mod day at my place Saturday afternoon? I should be able to get down to the post office to pick up my flush mount flashers by then...
Then maybe a breakfast ride on Sunday? Any takers?
As per the other thread, I'm unable to participate in any Saturday afternoon activities. Hence, Sunday morn is also no-go. Saturday morning brekky run maybe?
Hmmm... Might be able to pull that off. Will have to wait and see what the consensus is...

so, the judges has spoken.
the verdict?
sobieski is a $12 vodka. but better than smirnoff.
sobieski vs. stolichnaya gold?
slightly harsher nose, and noticable 'rubbing alcohol' flavor which stays through the finish. no mouthfeel whatsoever.
at $12, I still can't imagine why anyone wouldn't pony up the extra abe for even the regular stoli. but yes, it's better than smirnoff. I suppose I could try mixing it. and use it for pasta.
lol It goes far beyond the motorcycle. Hell, you saw my garage! Motorcycles, sports car and bicycles. And that doesn't even touch the stereo systems that I have accumulated...

lol The Poles only know about Wodka because they are Russia's western most state.
There are some other really good flavors over there, just not imported to the states. I was able to sample a bottle of Stolichnaya (the local equivilant of Crystal) that was purchased on Red Square. Tasty yes, but there I liked the Nordic varieties a touch more.
oh, it's not so bad that I refuse to try new vodkas... it's just an appreciation of the old school.

I think I've found my new pau hana hang out Fridays after work. Lately (except for last week) we've been going to Islands at Ala Moana. They used to have Kona porter on tap, but they discontinued it. That'd be tough. I don't usually clear the shop until almost 6pm on Friday, 5:30 if it's a good day. Then I'd have to go through Fri afternoon traffic to Mililani and try to get there before 7pm. Gloria has exercise class until 6:30 pm and has to shower afterwards. See what I mean?

Excellent question my good sir!
Th, Fr 5-7p, sat 1:30-3:30 for the next three weeks.
of course changing your mind every time only cancels our your previous vote, so I say taste often, think it over, vote at the end.
face to face, I knew which one I'd pick. at the end of a full bottle of each, and some other considerations, I'm not so sure now.

How long are they keeping you there? Assuming that the military is at the bottom of this, or top, depending on perspective.
Not too long, just over a week.
So no tastee for you next Saturday, eh? Silly Air Force.
Not then, but probably tomorrow night. :D
awesome. give a call when yer coming. we will be hitting a bucket at the driving range, then tasting.
Hitting a bucket at the range? How much are you into golf? I say that like it's a good thing. Have played for years.
I have been playing - and by playing I mean hitting a few rounds and then quitting for life - for probably 15 years. I am miserably bad, but I am trying to get better so I can play with my dad when he is on Da Big Island in mid October.
Quote from: mac900 on September 12, 2008, 09:40:32 AM
I say that like it's a good thing. Have played for years.
Was that supposed to be haven't?
Actually I have laid off a lot over the last 2 to 3 years. Prior to that I was (?) a maniac. I had my own club repair and custom fitting business and worked with a couple pros out here. Did repairs for them and made custom clubs for their students. Used to shoot in the low 80's all the time and on a few good days made it into the upper 70's. Then things went to shit for no discernable reason. It got bad and I got worse despite coaching and lots of practice. So I quit for the most part. Now I can go out and play once in a while and shoot better than I did when I quit. I still have all the golf shop stuff. I am gently reminded now and then that I should go sell off that stuff to help pay for my motorcycle/bicycle habits. [cheeky]

DO IT!!! Makes room for more two wheeled goodness! ;)
I have always sucked, and still do. I would be very happy to hit 100 :P
It's the meanest, rottenest, suck game there is. When I stopped I was shooting high 90's and over 100 a few times. My closet friends shoot those numbers. We just go for the beers and the good time now.

...so can you adjust my clubs before you go and sell your shit? ;) lie is off and they're a touch long for me...
Sure. I have the full on pro bending machine and have done lots of sets. I just have to clean the machine and put it back together so don't hold your breath just yet. It's a whole other story but getting clubs bent properly was what pushed me over the edge to start a business. It is just as about as wild as any Ducati repair story. [bang] [laugh]
no problemo... it's not even that big of a deal, since I'm a rubbish golfer anyway [drink]
Making the clubs shorter will also effectively flatten the lie. If you need them flatter and shorter then adjusting the length would be the first thing to do. New grips are needed for that job. I have lots of grips in inventory but not always what some folks like. Any special preference for grips?
[interlude]
I don't have any grip pref, but I seem to like 'em fat. Got any oversize grips floating around?
[/interlude]
haven't given grips much tought, actually...

How much for the Showa's. If Ben doesn't snatch them Walter might, maybe.
I'll take the forks for sure! Are they monster/st forks, or sbk forks?
i paid 380 for them.
so I guess 380
monster showas, 02+. walt's axle won't fit, remember?
Ok, I'll take them if you are serious about selling them. Actually, I'll make a deal with you. I'll buy them from you, but won't have a chance to put them on until I get back. That way you will have plenty of time to think it over and decide if you really wanted to sell them. If you didn't, I'll let you have them back. Deal?
well I ain't doing shit w/em.
So how do you want to do this? I leave tomorrow evening.
Hey you two! Just so you know, we have a reserve front wheel that will fit those forks, so just don't count that out as a deal breaker just yet! I can't speak for how much Walt would pay yet. I do know, and he admits, that he needs front forks in the worst way. His forks leak so much oil that the oil has diminished any braking ability. He effectively (and that's that proper use of the word ;)) has no front end and no brakes. Hardship should count for a pittance or two. :D
BTW, what's the top & bottom triple O.D. ? And will those fit on Ben's SC?

Speaking of leaving, what's the latest word on the wheel? I can pack it up if you like. Are you keeping the disc spacers or sending them back with the wheel?
they will fit if they are monster forks. And I'm cutting a check as soon as teddy tells me how to get it to him. [cheeky]

Dude, were you busy last night? Ben and I texted you to no avail.
Wine was definitely old and interesting. Monfalletto Barolo 1971. Light strawberry color, clouded by age. Huge tobacco, tinged with a bit of vinegar. Hard to say whether it was recent and mild or old and already aged to sweetness. Pleasurable either way.
And here I was about to post up that I cracked that thing open last night, only to find my thunder stolen. I demand retribution!!!! But only in the form of copious amounts of that tasty pineapple concoction you have going on over there. ;)
Let's not get too far ahead of ourselves now shall we? Don't we have at least one night of bar-b-que, wine & scotch ahead out there sometime? Lots of time for retribution and then some. [wine]

Sure we do, but time is starting to run out. I'll probably nail down a date for when they come to pick up all my house-hold goods this week.
Anyone need a lawnmower or gas powered weed whacker?
They're picking up household goods this week!? When do the bikes go? Are you going to move into TLA? Sorry, things seem like they are happening pretty fast.
where'd you have the chicken and waffles?

They're not coming for the stuff this week, I'm just going to try to start making arrangements. Probably won't be coming for them until the first week or May or so. The SC will probably go with that shipment, but I am shipping the SD through commercial means. I need to have a vehicle waiting for me once I get up to DC. ;)

La casa - mondo experimento. Didn't do gravy, etc, but made chicken and made waffles. Both were good; maybe next time we'll go all out.

honestly, i'm more of a hot sauce+syrup fan... gravy just doesn't seem to work with the waffles, IMO
I haven't even attempted fried chicken yet, so i'm prolly years away from making my own

Dear Mr. Tito, thanks for making a delectable vodka that mixes so well with Kahlua and dairy products to provide temporary short-term memory loss .
Being broke makes you a cheap drunk. thanks to Honda North America and the United States Army. And Budweiser. Is trying to sell a car drunk bad? I didn't think so.
Time for another rum and coke.
Bored. Screwdriver anyone? Why thank you.
Tequila Screwdriver. FTW.

I believe in rum. That is all...

Hey! What do I know? That was just Beer Advocate. I didn't want to sign up for their site so I couldn't compare with the beers I like. RateBeer liked the stuff and didn't care greatly for the beers that I like, my Sierra Nevadas and Bitburgers, so there.
To start with I didn't know if it was beer or wine and had to look it up.

2:30 on a Tuesday morning here in SoCal. A friends birthday and I find myself extremely drunk!! Not quite sure I remember the ride home(in a car) and I find myself hitting the delete key more times than it takes to finish the words in this sentence. Good times!!

I read that the Flying Dog Imperial Porter is way good too. There's a specialty store in Ward Warehouse that stocks some of these beers of which we speak. I'll have to pop for a few I suppose.

That is no fair! Should be banned from this thread for teasing!! We have one bar in Waikiki that has a good selection of beer. Only one problem. It's in Waikiki.
Then there's Varsity, which may have the second best selection, but what do I know. I know we can't park our bikes on the sidewalk that's what I know.
I occasionally have a decent selection of beer, and I'm really close to my house. Super convenient!
No beer today though - KJ Grand Reserve Chardonnay with my lamb and potatoes (which were cooked in leftover bacon fat). It works for me.
I will be trying some Flying Dog Imperial Porter and Double Pale Ale tonight. They are supposed to be real beers. RateBeer has them at 99 out of 100. We'll see.

Did you pick those up locally?
Quote from: jebus tristos on July 11, 2010, 09:47:52 AM

Yes indeedy. The IP has a 7.8% content and the Double Pale has a whoppin' 11.5%, which I didn't know about until hours later when I finally read the label. The IP hits you with a pronounced hop taste on the first sip but then after that you don't notice it so much. It's not overly syrupy but a little more so than a Guinness. Definitely smoother and richer than the Guinness. The double pale has a more pronounced hoppiness to it but not as bitter as the Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and the foam. Very creamy foam.
Yeah, I'm a dummy. I re-read the post, thought "that sounds familiar", then went to the store. I have, in fact, had both. The porter was wonderful indeed. I wasn't expecting to love the double pale, but it was surprisingly good, and your description was perfect - hoppy, but not bang over the head hoppy, and really not bitter. IIRC, noble hops, which I generally like, but the wife finds the fruitiness unpleasant.
Is Teddy still working at Fujioka's? If so, you should see if he/they can order some of the Dogfish Head stuff. Their 90 Minute Imperial IPA is stupid good!! They've also got a really tasty Palo Alto Imperial Brown somethingorother that knocked at least one of my socks off last night...

That doesn't disqualify him from sitting there being grumpy does it?
On another note, picked up some Sam Adams Summer Ale, to prove the point that everything SA makes that isn't Boston Lager is excellent. Also nabbed some Jenlain Ambree French Farm Country Ale. Prohibitively expensive, but apparently I'm not paying attention to such things this week.

I think that the just sitting there thing didn't work out. Too many opportunities to move crap around.
Last night's free tequila will not make this morning's ride to work pleasant.

I have been hitting that a bit lately. Had a couple with an old golfing buddy last light whilst smoking cigars and watching the sun set. In fact, right now after having downed a Double Dog I think I'll have an I.P. and watch the second race. Then out to rivet Chris's chain, grab a DVD rental and maybe get some Mexican food with Gloria. [drink]
Yep. I'm about to grab either an IP or a milk stout, head out of the balcony and fire up a pre-bed stick myself.
Happy drinking! [beer]
Deschutes Mirror Pond Pale. And corn and bacon.
Not bad at all. Now on the lookout for Raging pregnant dog Belgian IPA.
Haven't found any Raging pregnant dog.
Did find & tried Rogue Dead Guy Ale, Sierra Nevada Torpedo IPA & Sierra Nevada Porter.
Aside from a really nice foam the Dead Guy Ale was nothing to shout about but not bad either. I don't know if it deserves the high rating it gets from RateBeer. The Sierra Nevada Porter is kind of a snooze. The Torpedo IPA has promise once you get past the hopiness that IPA's have. I might try that again but don't know that I'd buy a six pack just yet. A pretty high bar has been set by the Flying Dogs.
