Title: The trials of Billy Lane.
Post by: swerdna on August 18, 2008, 04:04:51 PM
Well... two years later...

Here's the latest news I could find: linky (http://www.floridatoday.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080814/NEWS01/808140332/1006/news01).

It sounds like the defense tried to spin the blood with an independent lab... and couldn't... Now the prosecution wants the independent results for their own case.

did the lab have to test the bits of hair and flesh they picked out of the trucks grill?

I live in Melbourne Florida. His shop closed down but I've heard that he is working out of a smaller low key building. His old one was on the main road here in town. I know some friends of his and they said he took up MMA fighting.

Sad but true he'll (Lane) likely get off of this due to the fact that the guy on the scooter was also DUI.

* The defense says their blood analysis will not be introduced at trial, which means the samples the police took that indicated he was at 2X the legal limit, plus...

* The fact that he crossed the double-yellow and hit/killed the guy.......

* Hard to see how a rational jury would let him walk.....

hate these things, once the lawyers get a hold of it it drags out forever, especially when it's someone that's high profile.

I had to testify at a DUI manslaughter case from work about 3 years ago, the wreck was 3 years before that. Defence attorney tried all kinds of tricks to get the guy off. At the end of it the guy got 20 years, and he came from a wealthy family in town. I don't know what this guys situation is, but if the police and the state attorney are on top of it, he may go away.

I think that you may be missing my point.
Mr Lane is  allegedly a drunk driver who killed another motorcyclist. The point is that some of us are a lot more responsible  and don't glory in the fact that Billy Lane celebrity bike builder is cool.
I personally don't care for his style of bike, the bad boy image he promotes or any of that "watch me drink beer because I am a bad boy biker build off person  who thinks he is above the law."
He is not something he pretends to be, and although he is a celebrity biker he deserves to get what the law dishes out for  allegedly  driving drunk and causing an accident resulting i the death of another human.
Maybe you would feel a little different about this if the person he allegedly killed while allegedly driving under the influence of intoxicants was ........say..... your mother, sister, father, brother, neighbour etc.
Now I shall dispense with the niceness..........
Billy Lane is a schmuk who while drunk killed another biker. He deserves prison at the very least , a good spooning from Bobspapa and no place on this board.End of story.

Er....we're all for Billy getting strung up-why shouldn't we discuss it here?

Agreed. As much as I hate to see this type of story is serves as a sobering reminder of where a few bad choices can lead us to. I understand your say "he isn't worth the time or effort of discussing" and that may well be true..... but the incident and it's ramifications are. Take his name out of it and you still end up with a compelling tragedy.
