*** has offered to let us use his garage to host a mod event for ThelmaLou’s
M600.
It will be this coming Sunday, August 24th. The house will be open from 9AM to whatever time it takes to get the job done or the beer runs out or there aren't enough sober people to turn a wrench.
Anyone and everyone is welcome to show up, but you need to send a PM to *** to get on the guest list so he can notify the main gate.
Here’s what’s on the agenda:
- Raise front ride height.
- Attempt to raise rear ride height.
- Synchronize carbs (RichD?)
- Remove the stock handlebars and install clip-ons below the top triple.
- Install Rizoma grips on the new clip-ons
- Transfer over all the controls to the new clip-ons
- Install new Pazzo levers
- Install Rizoma bar ends
- Tail chop, and install Chipo's tail chop mount.
- Install a belly pan (no mounting hardware).
If these parts show up by Sunday, we also want to:
- Remove the existing stock slip-on exhaust, and install the DP Conti replicas.
- Remove the existing stock rearsets, and install after market rearsets.
*and if things go bad, I'll need to borrow someone's trailer to haul the pile of parts to the WareHome for Randy to put Humpty-Dumpty back together again. [laugh]
OH, badass! DP Contis are sweet!
If need be I can bring the truck and tote it back to Dallas if need be, but it won't be needed [thumbsup]
We will be there. Sounds like a good time. Let us know if we need to bring anything! [beer] [moto] [thumbsup]
I told *** on the phone that I was good for this, but I'm sure he'll make me send a PM as well.... :P

I've informed the offending homeowner, *if* I'm off work, I'll be there!
[thumbsup]
I may get the bug to take along my Dremel and mod my belt covers there. [thumbsup]

Good call!
Jim do you still want me to call Jordan up at AMS for the stock specs for ride height?

If you have the time, that would be good information to have! Thanks for offering. [beer]
I'll give him a ring this week and get that info for you. [thumbsup]
Jim, that's a pile of stuff to do at one sitting. [thumbsup] You mentioned belly pan... is there no mounting hardware? As in you don't have any or the pan doesn't need any? Is it a carbon fiber pan? Lisa might be of some help with that if you have any questions. She mounted up the carbon pan on her 600. But only after realizing that it wasn't going on due to the lack of mounting brackets that weren't supplied with it. Ask her where she got it, maybe AMS???

*** = his screen name--the poster formerly known as "CDC" (which was interpreted by the previous board as "Coastal Ducati Club"). They turned his "CDC" into "***" to censor any possible hint that any other board could possibly exist.... [roll]
Now, of course, we wonder if
he still exists.... :P
We've all heard of spontaneous combustion.
Maybe *** spontaneously evaporated?
I think my 916SPS burps, farts and backfires because of a serious case of spontaneous combustion. Doesn't CVS have an over the counter fix for that?? ;D
I'd love to come over and help with this project but I really need to save up my kitchen points for dove hunting and Arkansas rides. Besides I should be helping (if you can actually call it that...) Rich move on Saturday which will require me hanging around the house with family on Sunday. I'm sure you have enough ham fisted assistants without me screwing things up by "helping" out. [roll] Sounds like a lot of fun though! [thumbsup] [drink]
Rich must be in a jungle of moving boxes in his loft, he's been quiet on the board
If only *** would post up & save the day :P

Yes, it's a carbon fiber pan. It did not come with any hardware, but it does require some. Time to get creative fabricating something.... [thumbsup]
PM Lisa. Seriously, this sounds like her problem she had with her pan. She's the zen master of Monster 600 carbon belly pan issues. Just ask her, she'll tell you!
Not sure if it is the same as mine, but the only hardware required were longer engine case studs and several spacers - aluminum tubing cut to 1/4" or so - that fit over/around the mounting bolts. I ended up just about shattering the CF belly pan I've got because it looked like it was a simple add-on using the existing bolts. Not so fast...
AMS had the required parts that didn't make it from the factory in the same box as the belly pan [roll]
I'd really like to make this, but talk about Kitchen Points... it's our 23rd wedding anniversary so if I'm there, it'll be with family in tow ;D
i would love to make it but i have plans. *** is still alive because he called me to see if i was gonna come over. i would love to come over but i am afraid it may entice me to spend a ton of money on a bike i may get rid of next year to an s2r (possibly s4r) . still debating on whether to take my wife up on her upgrade remark or just keep the 695 and maybe get a used low mileage japenese 600 to storm around on on a daily basis.

I talked to Scott at AMS. He says that he'd pretty much need to have her bike there in person and just experiment with various parts that he has in stock. There's no "one-size-fits-all" answer. I guess that's what you're trying to tell me - I'm just a little slow sometimes. ;)
Did you ask for the ride height specs when you talked to Scott? If not I'll call Jordan tomorrow
Let me know what time this is going down. Weather permitting, I want to get a bicycle ride in the morning, before I head out to Ft Worth

Is McKraut still going to be moving on Sunday? Looks like there's enough people showing up for that on Saturday to have him completely moved, unpacked, and relaxing with some cold beer all in about 45 minutes.

no moving on sunday...it'll all be finished in short time saturday. i'm going to try to make this...but that hinges on how much i can get accomplished the rest of saturday. i wanted to take off work on monday to finish up the unpacking, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen since things have been so busy at work. sounds like this is going to be a very productive time, though...i could use a tutorial on how to do some carb work myself, actually.
I'll see if I have anything in the toolchest for a custom bracket for that bellypan and another mod.

Well, since I rode it all the way home, I guess I'll give my opinion. Rode great on the slab. Never really did any decent twisties - so there's not a day & night difference. However, something just "felt better" about it. It may have been my imagination, but I felt more upright (kinda makes sense - but I'm surprise I'd notice 10mm raised). Compared to my S1K, the Monster feels like I'm flicking around a BMX dirt bicycle, so "squirly" and "jittery" just about sums up my "feel" of any Monster. The S1K is a tank that reacts like one when compared to every Monster I've ridden.
Either way - we're much happier to have it at the "proper" elevation on the front end. [thumbsup]
It's a small chunk of change but an Ohlins steering damper makes a HUGE difference. Have on one the S2R1000 and Lisa swears by hers on the 600. They only mount on the left side not on top of the triple or under it but adding it sure made me a happy camper. That and adding an Ohlins shock and having the Showa forks revalved with Ohlins valves were the best improvements I have made to any bike in recent past. The stock Sachs shocks make great paperweights. [thumbsup]

I'll bring you a bucket of 20 gauge hulls after this weekend. [thumbsup] There apparently was a major revolt and uprising over our stupid friend's decision to bring his teenage daughter to our dove hunt weekend. No one would go. So the guy who owns the ranch called duffass and said no way, no female teenage juvenile delinquents allowed. So order in the universe is once again restored and duffass got caught lying to everyone about his daughter. He neglected to mention that she was in major trouble and what she was in trouble for to our friend. Hmmm, seems to me like an important part of the story was conveniently left out. Not good to lie and bullshit your friends, nothing good ever comes from it. The new sled will look cool with some 20g brass plugs! [thumbsup]

I'll bring you a bucket of 20 gauge hulls after this weekend. [thumbsup]
If there are 2 extra in that bucket, I'd be grateful to have them

[thumbsup] There apparently was a major revolt and uprising over our stupid friend's decision to bring his teenage daughter to our dove hunt weekend. No one would go.
