I remember someone posting on the old board plans for making a motorcycle work table... is that individual over here? Anyone have any good plans for a work table?
-Charlie
You mean like those tables that have jacks?
I've made 2.
From memory.....
About 2 1/2' x 7', 2 1/2' tall.
Framed up the 2 1/2' x 7' with 2x6's on end, with 2 'crossbars' where the tires would sit.
6 legs, 4x4's for legs.
All lag bolted together.
Planked the top with 2x6's, drywall screwed to the frame and crossbars.
Put a piece of good 1/2" plywood on top of one of 'em.
Bulletproof, but a PITA to get the bike up onto it.
Thanks Speeddog. I'll try that out
By PITA to get the bike on I take it that you mean it's just a straight ramp up?
There is this: http://www.monsterparts.com/pc/Platform-PS/Maintenance/Platform-PS.html (http://www.monsterparts.com/pc/Platform-PS/Maintenance/Platform-PS.html)
But I don't know how the bike get up on there.

Well, you *can* ramp it up, but the grips are about 6' off of the floor when it's on the table.
That's a very difficult ramp job, unless you've got 3 people.
If you make the table 18" tall, it's a reasonable compromise on working height vs. ease of getting the bike on.

IIRC, I've got some plans on my home computer for a work stand that takes two 4 X 8 sheets of 3/4 ply. If I still have it, I'll pm it to you sometime this weekend.
I made a flip-up table, it has a ramp built in.

I have plans somewhere, I'll dig them up and post them.

Wow. I wish I could do that. [clap]
ken,
the Triangle braces that are supporting the bike. Did you make those too? Do you have any close-up pictures of them.
That is a great table. I'm working off my own hand made stand right now.

Wow, that's nice. I'd like to see the plans for that. [thumbsup]
When you build a table, put a stop for the front wheel at the front, its real easy for it to go over while you a concentrating on getting the rear stand in place.

Some solutions are so simple yet seem to be left out of the plans so often. Good advise.

I think the plans are $30. Im guessing materials would be maybe $30 or so. I figure you could build the table for less than $100 and it's a drive it on and lift it affair.

The triangle braces are a set that uses a 1/2" drill rod, I normally slip it through the rear axle to clean/lube the chain.
When the rod is placed in the swing arm pivot the rear wheel can be removed, a small scissor jack and block of wood will lift the front wheel.
I'll take some more photos at lunch.
I'm trying to figure out how to share the table plans, I have the plans in a PDF and JPEG format, not sure where to put them?

You'll probably have to upload them to something like fileshare.com or rapidshare.com and then link to them.
thank you ken. That works for me. Please send pictures if you have them, but the bracing idea will work for what I'm doing .

That is a nice lift. Looks like it would work great!
I think you might be a bit low on the material cost estimate.
Priced any steel lately......... Probably $150-200 materials + the floor jack
Not being critical, cause I like the lift
At that rate the Harbor Freight one is prolly not a bad one to look at........
Don't know.
I have the jack already, and while you're probably right it would be more than $30, I don't think it would cost 150-200. I can get a pretty good deal on steel locally.
you could get cut offs from a local shop and piece it together. Cheaper that way. Assuming you can weld anyway :)
thanks for the plans! [thumbsup] now I just need to find time to build it...
